A coroner's jury cleared anyone of blame for the Olympian wreck near Custer Creek after 42 dead or missing. Rescue teams found bodies in the Yellowstone River at Fallon and Sidney, with 31 recovered and 25 identified.

Federal court in Newark heard charges that Mayor Hague violated free speech during an injunction action against CIO and ACLU officials in Jersey City. Judge Clark ruled against Hague's bid to address the court and warned him to present evidence through counsel. Contempt actions against Hague were paused as briefs are filed.
Secretary of Mines Michael J. Hartneady is reinstated as a member of the United Mine Workers after Nesquehoning Local No. 1704 re elected him to membership, the Nesquehoning group comprising about 1,100 L N C Co. workers.
Secretary of the Interior Harold L. Ickes arrived on the Trede France with his red haired bride Jane Dahlman aged 25. He said he has never returned from Europe in such a happy state of mind.
Lawrence Moore, 15, and Clyde Crise, 13, were treated at Somerset Community Hospital after separate incidents Tuesday afternoon. Moore fell from a stepladder at Firedens, fracturing his right arm. Crise fell from a neighbor’s hay truck in Listie, dislocating his right shoulder. Both fractures were reduced at the hospital.
Attorneys from 67 counties gather at Bedford Springs for a three day Pennsylvania Bar Association session expected to be its largest. President Charles English and Willis Van Devanter address the meeting while committees consider civil service reform, taxation, uniform laws, and judiciary issues. Vanderbilt speaks tomorrow. a women’s reception is planned tomorrow afternoon.
State College June 21. President Ralph D Hetzel announced two new department heads at the Pennsylvania State College to replace retiring faculty. Dr Ray H Dotterer will succeed Dr E W Runkle in philosophy and Dr Fred Lininger will lead the department of agricultural economics succeeding Dr F P Weaver.
G N Stone age 60 longtime butler to Steelman Charles M Schwab at his Loretta summer home died today after a heart ailment. He had served Schwab for forty years.

Britain pushes for a lull in hostilities as evacuation commissions may operate, with France and Italy differing in sympathies. Chamberlain hails progress toward non intervention and possible mediation.
Washington Pennsylvania hosts the 72nd annual Grand Army of the Republic encampment with 1200 attendees and ten veterans present. Mayor Rowland greets Women’s Relief Corps and Daughters of Union Veterans as officials plan elections for state commander and affiliated group leaders. A parade is slated for tomorrow.
Four men named Scardini, Ghrams, Schepis and Nick Schepis were sentenced in U S district court for conspiracy to violate liquor laws by operating an illegal moonshine ring in Fayette and Somerset counties. Others pled guilty and received shorter terms. several defendants were acquitted or freed.
Ernest L. Trent formerly manager of the South Center Ave A and P meat department takes over the Berlin Provision Market. The interior will be redecorated and the store renamed Trent's Market. It will be ready for business July 1 with quality meats produce and groceries planned.
Miss Mary J. Borland a Franklin schools teacher for 35 years and sister of James B. Borland news paperman died today at age 75. She retired 12 years ago.
Attorney General Guy Bard sought to supersede Dauphin County District Attorney Carl B. Shelley over a proposed grand jury probe into graft charges tied to Gov. Earle. Judge Paul Shaeffer urged a formal legal path while Bard and Shelley balked at authority. Shelley refused access to pretrial evidence as Bard pressed for control of the inquiry.
