The 1968 US auto sales reached 8,822,158 placing second to 1965. Two door hardtops led body styles with 3,963,185 units, 45 percent of total. Automatic transmissions were in 89.1 percent of cars, radios 87.9 percent, V-8 engines 86.4 percent, power steering 77.4 percent, and 43.3 percent had factory air conditioning.
Highlights include 1610 Dutch settlers landing on Manhattan Island, 1776 Continental Congress vote to draft the Declaration of Independence, 1898 U S Marines invasion of Cuba, 1940 Italy declares war, 1942 Lidice massacre, 1945 Eisenhower awarded Order of Victory, Geneva talks on Berlin, 1964 civil rights filibuster fate, and 1968 UN treaty draft on nuclear restraint.
The forecast covers Northwest to Southeast Texas with scattered thunderstorms mainly in the north and a cool downs. American casualties reached 18 dead and 95 wounded with 6 Saigon troops killed.
Nixon returns to San Clemente after the Midway talks and signals a withdrawal of 25 000 U S troops from South Vietnam by August end. Officials say no yearly numerical target exists. White House and congress leaders will receive a full briefing and military honors will be accorded.

The project is part of the Colorado River Municipal Water District 1966 construction program totaling 13 5 million dollars.
Organizations planning concession booths at Towle Memorial Park must notify the Chamber of Commerce by June 25. Booth locations will be drawn by lot, and only those who notify the Chamber will be considered. Those planning parade entries should also notify the Chamber.
