The Standard prints voting blanks inviting readers to nominate friends for the contest. Each filled blank earns 24 votes and counts toward a potential Europe trip. Three weeks from today the first candidate rankings will be published and the top scorer will win a 10 cash prize.
John Sullivan Sr. aged 96 died late yesterday at the home of his son J M Sullivan 2024 Portland avenue. He lived in Beaver Dam Wisconsin until twelve years ago when he moved to Minneapolis with his sons J M and D C Sullivan of the Chamber of Commerce. A daughter Mrs F A McDonald Beaver Dam Wisconsin survives. Wife died seven years ago. Funeral at 9 am Tuesday from St Stephen's Catholic church with interment in St Mary's cemetery.

Mail carrier James Mcueod brought a flax sample to the office from Andrew Rockstad’s farm twelve miles west of Sisseton. The flax, raised from seed imported from Norway, is declared by examined judges to beat all others in the line. The sample merits top ribbons at the flax show.
A seven year old son of O Halverson died when a threshing tender wheel passed over his head near Fairmount. The father was driving the engine and did not see the fall in time to stop the tragedy. The family lived on a farm four miles from Fairmount.
Maurice Schindler escaped severe injury when a 60 gallon gasoline tank exploded while he was repairing it at the Schindler Bros store in Effington. The blast ripped the ceiling, singed his face and eye, and started a small fire that firefighters quelled before they arrived. The incident was a narrowly averted disaster for the town and business.

The Webster gun club arrived in Sisseton last Sunday and defeated the local team 879 to 30. Nelson, Wilson, Adking and Robertson led with 44 of 50 while Sherbino was runner up at 48. The lineups featured Sisseton players Schindler Glasier Laughlin McCoy Sleight Oh lang Carlberg Adkins Nelson and Wilson plus Webster members Block Martin Robertson Pillsbury Ebling Cain Rabak Nerger Sherbino and Tegtmeier.
Mr and Mrs David Babb visited their son Daniel Babb in Roberts county last Friday. Mr Babb Sr age 83 but described as very active and a Civil War veteran and one of the county s oldest settlers and most respected citizens.

Roy Florey of Watertown County was killed when six horses pulling a plow spooked two colt animals. The accident occurred on his father Milo Blorey’s farm near Sleury and left him with fatal abdominal injuries. He was about twenty nine and well liked by neighbors.
Roberts County residents may enter a contest offering two trips to Europe and $100 in gold as grand prizes. The rules promise strict honesty and equal chance for all entrants with winners selected fairly.

H H Tilley of the Dakota Hide and Fur company was arrested by U S Marshal Byron McVeigh and held on bonds after a hearing postponement. He allegedly advertised paying top prices for hides wool and pelts and tanning them into robes and harness leather, then redirected goods for personal use via mail ads. The case centers on two counts of using the mails to defraud.
In Sioux Falls on September 7 Senator Coe J. Crawford denounces President Taft for accusing progressive Republicans of pursuing personal politics. He defends cooperation with Democrats on reciprocity and farmer bills, asserting he will align with progressives even if it splits from the president.
Old time resident Pierre Jacobs near Presho was killed when a wagon drawn by a runaway team tipped over after a pole dropped. His wife was seriously injured while two daughters who were thrown from the wagon suffered only minor bruises.
