Thomas Hoveland of Ortley swore out a warrant against John Aiken and Allie Gilleland for assault and battery. Sheriff Minder brought them before Judge Prindiville, who found the evidence supported Hoveland’s claim and fined each defendant twenty five dollars.
David Williams of Webster elected director and vice president of the First National Bank of Duluth with a salary of 25000 dollars per year. He will retain Webster business interests, leaving them to his brother John Williams. The bank, capital and surplus two million dollars, deposits ten million, is one of the strongest west of the Mississippi. Aberdeen faces a theater boom as managers promise high class programs and growing audiences. Aberdeen reports an epidemic of petty thefts with five cases and two arrests, one linked to a recent penitentiary release, as citizens assist police against farmhand impersonators.
Mrs. John Hagen living west of the tracks suffered fatal burns after saturating her clothing with gasoline and setting it ablaze. Her husband Smothered the flames but she died Tuesday noon after severe injuries to face shoulders and left side. She leaves a husband and three children. Remains sent to Elkton South Dakota for burial.

A man named William Nelson from Appleton was shot and killed at Joe Kneece's two miles south of Correll with a 12 gauge shotgun at about twenty feet. Kneece, claiming self defense, is jailed in Ortonville. Nelson left a wife and two children. The incident followed drinking and a quarrel over a trunk theft. Short birth notices report two newborn boys. One to Mr and Mrs Dave Stapleton of Long Hollow born Thursday August 6. Another to Editor Trockstad and wife of Effington born Saturday August 8.
Hans Hanson of Browns Valley married Miss Annie Boocock of Wilmot on a Saturday evening in the city with Rev. Brehme presiding. The couple plans to reside in Browns Valley.
After a solid illness in seven years, Gottlieb Rash an old settler in Garfield township died Tuesday July 28 at his daughter Mrs. August Thigie home. He leaves daughters Mrs. Fink Mrs. Thiele and Mrs. Iverson to mourn his departure. Funeral was held at the German M E church nearby.
Three anxious hunters were taken in by a North Dakota game war den near Leon. They waded water to reach South Dakota soil and left a pump gun behind. The White Rock Journal warns pot hunters that the full extent of the law awaits. Summit carbon paper advertised at the Standard office.
