Supt. Palier notes and visits as Maurice resident Rev J A De Speider of Maurice spent Monday here visiting old friends. Huibregtse of Bull taught the teachers exam last week. The Christian Reform church services were led by elders. Jno Van de Steeg advertises groceries and canned goods with home delivery. The county board met in session with most members present. Weather improved after a cold spell. Obituary for G Kroese aged 32 at Christian Reformed church. Many locals visited relatives, teachers, and editors at offces, with new spring lines and clothing advertised.

The new mayor and councilmen approved salary increases for the mayor from 23 to 50 dollars, treasurer from 50 to 60, and town clerk from 50 to 80. L T Ogget was reappointed clerk. Condon and Van Peit, represented by G F Hatley, asked to reduce their license from 50 to 25 a month, offering to prove the business is not profitable enough to warrant the higher license. A council committee including Slitherveer, Krass, and Scheap was appointed to investigate. Mrs Wat Van Beyoum, aged over 60, killed herself this morning at 11 in Maurice by hanging from a coal shed rope. Coroner Jongewaard to investigate at 3 pm. Elsewhere, court activity included Judge Hutchinson presiding for Judge Oliver, naturalization hearings, and a grand jury indictment against George Hentrich with leniency requested due to youth.
Next Friday the N W C A students stage the comedy Bay Haven in three acts at the Academy chapel. The play features a lively plot with action and humor and a strong cast including Captain Harper J C Van Wek Hardy Stone Theo Bradlay and Rev J Wesley Wiggins. Admission is 25 cents and proceeds go to an athletic benefit.
A high school program in Orange City to raise funds for a piano raised more than the debt and left a small balance for tuning or insurance. The event featured piano duets, vocal solos, recitations, and an orchestra, with thanks to the Orange City community for strong patronage that underscored the program’s success.
