Hewett Group Mine Near Silverton Shows Rich Ore Vein

The Hewett Group, about four miles from Silverton, advances from prospect to mine with 800 feet of underground development. Main tunnels include 216 feet upper and 875 feet lower, with a pay streak of quartz rich ore yielding 80 to 600 ounces of silver per ton. Ore is daily sacked and shipped. ten workers, soon more, with a new rail link to the surface.

Freddy class mine linked to Noonday ledge development

The Freddy claim near Nelson lies below the Noonday property and near Galena Mines road. A tunnel on the ledge exposes mineral at 400 feet below the wagon bridge with a streak of mineral on the footwalls and a vein strike east west dipping north at about 69 degrees. The Freddy is described as a potential Silverton shipper contributing to a chain of mines from the Lake shore to the Vancouver Group over five miles.

Businessmen of Sandon Seek Mediation in Miners Strike

A Sandon meeting of Sandon and nearby town merchants formed to mediate between the Mine Owners Association and the Miners' Union. A committee was named to urge a conference and push for a one year wage agreement of 3.25 per shift for hammermen with no discrimination in hiring or dismissal. The move aims to reopen negotiations and speed a peaceful settlement.

One of the New Denver delegates to the Business Men's meeting in Sandon spent his first night away from Windy City in five years. He found Sandon unchanged on his return Wednesday and remarked that if the world grows larger toward Sandon it is a mighty big world.
