A Greek laborer was shot in the shoulder near Beowawe by railroad assistant engineer Krause during a quarrel with gang foreman Shea. The group of about sixty Greeks seized Krause and Shea and bound them to the track before friends intervened. The wounded man was taken to Battle Mountain. the injury is serious but not fatal.
Z Silve and J Puebla arrived from Golconda and Paradise valley respectively. J Sibbald attended the First National Bank board meeting from Golconda. District Attorney Hood returned from Clover valley after an official school visit. Miner Ed Uren was injured at Dean near Battle Mountain but recovered. a hammer fell from timbering work. Salt Lake Tribune sale to William C. McBride announced. Patrick Lannan and Judge C C Goodwin retire from the Tribune.
Superior Judge Ellsworth of Alameda county ruled that California divorces are absolute and that Nevada laws allow remarriage within a year after separation. Therefore Reno marriages are legal under the decision rendered yesterday.

A fair sized audience praised The Convict's Daughter at Armory hall last night. The performance surpassed the average road company with solid acting from W. R. Ogden as the tramp and convict and a well sustained leading lady and soubrette. The villain lacked depth while the hero showed a strong voice and the old ironel was well presented. The company offered notable scenery though unused.
State notes show Tonopah with eleven saloons and four more under construction. A W & T extension may run via Carson Valley or Tonopah. Rail sidings added west of Battle Mountain named Valmy and Moulin. Lumber shortages hinder Tonopah building as winter nears. The Marys River Land and Cattle and Canyon Light and Power file incorporations with Elko and Yerington offices.

Chas Kaiser of Reno committed death by own action in San Francisco yesterday morning by leaping from a third story window at 615 Taylor street. He was about 71, a native of Germany, prominent in Churchill and Reno business circles, former president of the Reno Water and Light Co, and long active in politics. He leaves a second wife and two children from the second marriage, plus three daughters from the first marriage.
Joe Mahoney armed with a shotgun entered the New Pass mines bunk house at 7 30 AM and ordered Isaac Farish to dress as he planned to kill him. Farish obeyed and Crawford tackled Mahoney to seize the gun. A struggle followed, Mahoney was knocked down, the weapon captured, and he was arrested and jailed in Austin. He faces an assault with intent to kill charge over the New Pass Mining Company contract dispute.

Alpine county California reports a beating of 70 year old Mrs Barnes by two men named Andrews and Ulrick over a land dispute. The case provokes strong public interest and will be investigated by the grand jury.
