Columbia and Shamrock Race Ends With Time Limit Expired

The first American cup race between Columbia and Shamrock near New York Oct 3 was marked by light winds and crowd interference. The Shamrock led at times, Columbia surged ahead, but with the time limit reached at 4:55 PM the race was called off as Shamrock remained slightly in front near the finish.

Smyth Diehl Wedding of Two Popular Young People

Thomas P. Smyth and Miss Kate Diehl were married at 1 o'clock this afternoon at the bride’s home, performed by Rev. George H. Greenfield. Only relatives and close friends attended. The bride, Winnemucca-born and California-educated, and the groom, formerly at Winnemucca rail yards and now in charge of the Oregon Short Line yards at Pocatello, Idaho, will honeymoon in San Francisco before returning to their new home in Pocatello.

Boundary arbitration grants Britain key territory in Venezuela dispute

Paris dispatch reports the Anglo-Venezuelan Boundary Arbitration Commission disallows much of Venezuela’s inland and coastal claims. The line starts at the Waini river with a complex path through the region, awarding Britain most of the territory. The decision, read by umpire M. Demartius, favors a British frontier and marks a compromise outcome.
