A distressed woman, Mrs. W. G. Pierce, and her five year old son were sent from Golconda to Independence Oregon by freight train after officials deemed her not in her right mind. She said she was traveling from Napier Missouri to Oregon with relatives. Dr. Hanson diagnosed nervousness and arranged onward travel.
Portland Telegram reports Ferrins and Barkley charged with obstructing mail between Burns and Yale. A young detective A Alexander lured them with dynamite then guided a mail robbery, earning$500. he later betrayed them to authorities. Alexander claimed Southern Pacific backing but was dismissed as an amateur. Barkley and Fer rins pled guilty. Alexander waited a week to plead.
An 19th century testimonial advertises Hall's Catarrh Cure with a one hundred dollar reward for cures it cannot achieve. It lists F. J. Cheney and Co. of Toledo as proprietors, with endorsements from West Truax and Walding Kinnan Marvin.
