An ad-like fragment argues that a laugh can mask female pain and months of suffering. It cites Mrs. Alice T. Holmes of Uniontown Pa and promotes Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription and Medical Adviser, offered free with a small payment for binders, claiming relief from menstrual issues.
London dispatches and New York sources describe intense bombardment at Ladysmith with numerous casualties and Boer and British assaults. Reports mention refugees, flag of truce incidents, and strong British entrenchments as civilians seek safety.
The Silver State reports Kentucky has disputed results with both Republican and Democratic leaders claiming victory. County canvasses begin as official counts loom with partial tallies showing Goebel ahead by about 963 in some papers and Taylor by 3,605 in others.
Geo W Kern, 38, hotel proprietor, shot his wife, 29, after their estrangement. She fled a streetcar, sought help from about 200 workers. Kern followed, barricaded the door, and killed her before turning the revolver on himself. Both died at the scene.
Albert August Becker, a German butcher, was hanged in the Chicago county jail after admitting the January 21 killing of his wife Rachael and disposing of her body. The neck did not break on the fall and he died sixteen minutes later after protesting his innocence and implicating George Satterlin, the father of his second wife.
An old advertisement promises to cure la grippe in two days with Laxative Bromo Quinine Tablets. It notes a refund if the remedy fails and carries E. W. Grove's signature on each box. The price is 25 cents and sold by all druggists.
A note from Nov 4 1897 from Vryburg Bechuanaland by Capt C G Dennison praises Chamberlain's Colic Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy Kennedy as beneficial for bowel complaints among his troops. Brown Bros Druggists offer the product.
The War Department notes Aguinaldo has shifted his base northeast from Tarlac to Bayombong about seventy five miles away. He now sits near Mogol headquarters on Cayugan river, a rugged valley area with hostile Tagalos outlying the mountains. American plans contemplate advancing along Cayugan river to Aparri if movement occurs.
An advertisement asserts Hood's Sarsaparilla treats rheumatism by attacking the disease cause. It says the medicine neutralizes the acids in blood, strengthens the stomach, aids digestion, and permanently cures dyspepsia. Hood's Pills are priced at 25 cents for constipation.
Advertisements tout Karl's Clover Root Tea claiming pure blood and health of bowels liver and kidneys with prices 25 and 50 cents at Eagle Drug Store. Mrs Winslow's Soothing Syrup promoted for teething pain diarrrhea and stomach relief with 25 cent bottles and worldwide druggist sales.
