Judge Taft, president of the Philippine commission, has notified that the commission will convene in Washington on March 27. Taft’s resignation from the judicial office takes effect tomorrow. The delay allows him to close affairs before a long absence from the United States as the old commission winds up its duties.
A freight train derailed six miles east of Colfax as it carried five cars off the rails. Of the two men found in the wreck one named O'Brien was killed and another, T Garner, was injured. The survivors had been riding on the brake beams.
A man believed to be J B Peffer son of ex Senator W A Peffer of Topeka Kan was found dead in a cheap lodging house on East Tenth street. He appeared to have taken morphine and left a card reading Father I'm tired. The man about thirty five years old was a printer and a member of the Topeka union. No cause is known and identification was confirmed by local reporters familiar with Peffer.
