London reports Lord Roberts likely to enter Bloemfontein tomorrow or late today with British cavalry leaders claiming positions that could seal the capture. Boers may resist until main forces join. Curiosity prevails in London as Mafeking relief rumors circulate without official confirmation and refugees describe bitterness between rebels and Free Staters.
General Roberts advances across scorching plains from Poplar Grove to Dreifontein in the latest severe engagement. Boers resist fiercely, retreating at dusk as Roberts concentrates center assault. A Free Stater claims President criticized Transvaalers depredations, calling burghers horse and cattle eaters.

Reports from Chicago dated March 13 describe severe flooding across Illinois northern counties. Desplaines, Illinois, Fox, Sangamon, and Kankakee rivers overflowed, destroying livestock and property, idle factories, and displacing dozens of families. Ottawa, Peru, Havens, Peoria, Lorenzo, and Pontiac experienced major inundation and rescues with losses including homes, stock, and basements flooded.
