London reports that experts believe Lord Roberts' success has brought peace closer. Boer resistance west of Bloemfontein may end with burghers retreating. Transvaal troops likely entrench north of the Vaal while Free State forces seek peace. Mafeking telegrams show only minor despondency.
London dispatch states Lord Roberts captured a Krupp gun and tents with wagons, while General Clements occupied Norvalspont. Two cavalry officers killed, several wounded, one missing. Gatacre to occupy Burghersdorp. rail line repairs pushed toward Stormberg and Steynsberg.
War bulletin from Pretoria states General De Wet commands the Boers north of the Modder river while President Kruger travels to Bloemfontein to settle the disputes between the Transvaalers and the Free States.
The Theatre Francais in Paris was destroyed by fire starting about noon. Fire control was limited and the interior burned as crowds gathered. two actresses barely escaped with one reportedly missing but later alive. Mademoiselle Henryot identified among the casualties. M. Sardou arrived to mourn the loss.
In Chicago on March 8 heavy police guards supervised over three hundred non union workmen as contractors restarted construction in downtown buildings. The effort followed a strike by unions affiliated with the Building Trades Council and faced picketing but limited interference from protesters.
In Bordeaux on March 8 a pro Boer meeting turnout marched to the British Consulate, battered the door, smashed windows, then moved to the Consul's private home. Police dispersed the mob and arrested leaders. Local officials expressed regret over the incident.

He described masks, alleged scab complicity, and blamed mine owners for aggravated conditions that led to the explosion and violence at the mill. He noted the Bunker Hill Company built a Morro Castle with loop holes for gatling guns in anticipation of trouble.
A March 8 blaze in Dalkenburg, South Dakota, destroyed forty buildings at the Saloon district, with losses estimated at 500000. Deadwood and other fire units fought the fire, using dynamite to blow up structures to halt the spread amid high winds and explosive fuels.

Fremont, March 8. The Sandusky River is at its highest in fifteen years. Ice jams have flooded the lower city, covering tracks of the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway and halting traffic. Three factories closed and homes, businesses, and streets are submerged with more inundation possible if the rise persists.

The Fifth Judicial District Court of Nevada Humboldt County appoints J A Cochran public administrator of the Jose Ramentiera estate. Creditors must file claims with vouchers with the court clerk within three months from the first publication. Dated January 22, 1900.
In Humboldt County Nevada the court appoints Charles Larsch as administrator of the Elizabeth Laasch estate deceased. Creditors must file claims with vouchers and affidavits with the Clerk of the Court. Appointment date February 3 1900 and qualification February 21 1900. February 21 1900.
