Indian threats loom as tribes gear for frontier clash
The Spokanes Cayuses and other tribes mobilize about three hundred armed warriors near Hell Gate. Rumors say they will join Joseph at Joick and fatheads will link up, with horses seized. Fires in St John Prompt Wave of Attacks and Lynch Threats
In St John New Brunswick yesterday two men were seen near a house then a fire broke out. A second arson attempt targeted a hay schooner at the wharf. Charles Day was seized by a mob, Major Cunard intervened and Day was placed under guard. Police later arrested Thomas Slaven and Charles Brown on suspicion of other arson attempts.
