Thin Blood and fatigue are described as anemia symptoms. Emulsified cod liver oil with phosphites of lime is praised for delivering nutrients to blood and brain. The ad urges use for rose-less cheeks, weight loss, overwork, and aging with a product sold by druggists and Scott & Bowne of New York.
The advertisement promotes Chamberlain's Eye and Skin Ointment to relieve intense itching and ematting from eczema tetter salt rheum and other skin diseases. It claims cure for bad cases and notes use for itching piles sore nipples chapped hands frost bites and chronic sore eyes. Sold by druggists at 25 cents per box. Also touts Dr Cady's Condition Powders as a tonic blood purifier and vermifuge for animals.
The cabinet received Commodore Schley's dispatch noting Cervantes fleet inside Santiago harbor. The bombardment aimed to locate shore batteries and was successful. No American casualties or hits. Christobal Colon and another warship lie in the channel entrance, with plans to scuttle to block entry if needed.
Paris rumors question Admiral Cervera involvement at Santiago. Some believe he maneuvered to deceive Americans and then sailed toward the Philippines.
The Oregon joined the squadron here yesterday and received a worthy reception by the fleet. The hospital ship Solace sailed for New York carrying eighty sick and wounded sailors and marines from the local hospital, seeking a cooler climate for recovery. The Secretary of War sent Congress a request for 53 million 879 thousand 359 dollars for equipment and maintenance through January 1, 1899 for 75,000 volunteers.
The auxiliary cruiser St Paul arrives with official dispatches for Washington. Captain Sigsbee reports no doubt Cervara's fleet is at Santiago harbor.
News from Tampa on June 3 reports no troop embarkations yet and no movement toward Cuba. Officers expect no large action until official news from the Sampson and Schley fleets and until Spanish Cervera is disposed of or enough US warships can protect transports.
A Port au Prince dispatch reported by the Evening World says the U S fleet renewed its attack on Santiago de Cuba yesterday morning. Fear of a land assault grows as 3000 insurgents are said to be massed outside the city. Later reports claim rebels attacked the city in three columns and heavy fighting ensued.
News reached here at 11 o'clock this morning that another battle began at Santiago shortly before 6 o'clock. The report notes ongoing fighting near Porto Prince Haiti with renewed exchanges between opposing forces.
