Casualties at Spion Kop Reported by General Buller

General Buller reports from Spearman's Camp on January 29 that the Faad Division and mounted brigade suffered 22 killed 20 wounded 6 missing at Spion Kop on January 24. Killed were Captain the Hon W B Petre and Lieutenant C G Greenfell of Thhornycroft's mounted infantry. wounded include Colonel Bloomfield of the Lancashire Fusiliers taken prisoner General Woodgate is stated as dangerously wounded and RE W Moncrieff. Woodgate's death was later deemed erroneous.

Robbers Kill a Detective in Missouri Frontier Clash

John Jackson, detective for the Missouri Kansas and Texas Railway from Sedalia, was killed by a gunman in Holden after an attempt to rob a Missouri Pacific express car. A posse pursued six suspects. one wounded man was captured. The resort owners were arrested for harboring the robbers and a woman alerted officials.
