Moody Evangelist Dwight L Moody Dies After Overwork

Dwight L. Moody an evangelist died at noon in East Northfield Mass after a long heart condition worsened by recent revival outings in the West. He spoke his last sermon in Kansas City on November 12 before collapsing the next day and failing to recover. Born January 5 1837 in Northfield he earlier did farm hands sales and Civil War troop work then launched revival campaigns with Ira D Sankey and later authored religious works.

Supreme Court Decides Land Grant Cases in New Mexico

The U S Supreme Court ruled against Endicott Peabody and J Francisco Chavez in two New Mexico land grant disputes. Both grants of 114000 acres near Ojo Caliente and 5000 acres in Valencia county were invalidated due to inadequate provincial granting authority under Mexican rule. Justice Peckham authored the opinions affirming the lower court.
