Prominent Dallas Lawyer Fatally Shot in Elevator

In Dallas Texas attorney Edwin O Harrell was shot four times by rival lawyer M Etheridge in a crowded North Texas building elevator. Harrell died at his home. Etheridge is in custody. The two counseled opposing sides in a cotton mill property dispute and quarrelled over professional matters.

Death of a familiar national character Milligan dies at 87

Huntington Ind December 21 Hon L P Milligan aged 87 known in national history died today. In 1864 he was arrested for treason and held in a military prison. A military commission condemned him to hang May 19 1885 but the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. Garfield argued his case at the Supreme Court leading to release.

Fire destroys large Iola plant in Kansas town

A fire at Ho'elock in Lanyonville near Iola Kansas felled a 200 foot metal line empire stack and destroyed about half of the Lanyon Zine Company yard. Property valued at 250000 was insured. The blaze killed two workers Jew Matthews and J. B. Schank and left about 200 employees out of work.

Scranton Pa December 21 A strike began at the Hyde and Oxford collieries of the D L W Company after drivers demanded a ten cent per day increase, making a wage scale of 147 dollars per day. Committees were appointed to seek a settlement with the coal department superintendent.

Removal of Maine Heroes Bodies In Discrepancy

The dead of the Maine were moved without ceremonies to a mortuary chapel then to the China wharf in ten wagon convoys carrying 151 coffins. They were loaded on two steam lighters and taken to a battleship under guard. Remains were disinfected and three coffins missing, possibly due to clerical error per Father Chadwick.
