The Manila dispatch describes Aguinaldo's forces using two artillery guns at Calumpit and engaging General Wheaton's troops. Americans report casualties, shelling exchanges, and improvised trench fighting as engineers repair bridges and troops move along the Rio Grande.
Richard Croker sailed aboard the New York with sister Mrs Warren and advisers, amid a cheering, elbowing crowd of politicians and friends. Notable guests included Sir Julian Pauncefote and Thomas Reed, who planned a three month vacation abroad, while Reed declined to discuss politics on the voyage.
Governor Poynter received a Manila cablegram stating Lt Col Colton cannot accept the Colonelcy of the First Nebraska due to customs duties. The regiment is likely retired from action, and H B Mallon of Omaha was named Colonel as Mulford remains transferred from the Second and is a volunteer officer.
Secretary of War Alger and Major General Miles arrived at the White House within minutes of each other. Miles waited fifteen minutes for an audience and would not discuss his visit. He jokes about a nineteen year old native king in a tropical climate and claims government support as he plans to leave for California by mid May.

The auxiliary cruiser Yosemite sailed for Guam with Captain Richard Leary to govern the island. the ship will remain there for use of the island.
