At a Fiji Islands sugar plantation four hundred horses received a molasses based ration. Initially animals were fed up to 301 pounds of molasses daily before a final ration was set. The adopted mix included fifteen pounds molasses, thirteen pounds bran and four pounds other feed.
Per head, feeding cattle with molasses and cane tops saved 45 dollars a year, as waste molasses and tops remain plentiful. Plantation managers deem molasses a good substitute for other feeds. Washington lumbermen plan to visit the Philippines to install modern sawmills backed by large capital, aiming to tap high grade island woods for export.
