School Now Open Teachers Secured For Six Year System

Last Saturday ended summer vacation and on Monday pupils entered the classroom under Prof. J. C. L. Cline for another year. The six year high school system is in place with seventh and eighth grades forming the junior high and the first through fourth years the high school. In town, District No. 1 Silver Lake corporation lists Marion Scuart, Mary Clymer, Pearl Kline, Neva Homman, Mattie Hardin, Frances Miller, Estil Franks, Dawn Jones, and J. D. L Cline as instructors. Robbers entered The Phillipson clothing store in Warsaw through a cellar window early Monday morning and took money from the cash drawer and clothing. The exact amount stolen is not known.

Razing of Corner Sycamore and Jefferson Shop Begun

McKrill has started tearing down the old building on his corner lot at Sycamore and Jefferson streets. The structure, once a dwelling, later housed a blacksmith and carpenter shop for forty years. a smaller shop will be erected to provide space for carpenter and repair work.

Registration in Lake Township Surpasses Five Hundred Voters

The last Saturday registration passed without incident. In the north precinct 159 men and 118 women registered while the south precinct saw 128 men and 98 women register. Numerous others did not register, totaling over five hundred registered voters in Lake Township.

Arrested moonshine maker receives suspended sentence

Jack Aikman, arrested here weeks ago for manufacturing moonshine whiskey, appeared in court Tuesday. He pled guilty to giving whiskey to Charlies Nice. Judge Bouser suspended the sentence, requiring Aikman to pay $25 of a $100 fine plus $61.15 in court costs. Sheriff C B Moon had confiscated a quantity of whiskey.

St Joseph District 76th Conference Opens at Winona Lake

The 76th annual St. Joseph district conference for 167 churches began at Winona Lake with 22 000 members represented and 81 pastoral charges to be announced. Two hundred delegates are attending as weekday sessions set at the old auditorium and the closing Sunday at the new tabernacle. Last year 1 800 attended weekly and over 3 000 on closing Sunday. this year larger crowds expected with appointments to be announced next Sunday.
