A telegram to O C Carter from Newton County Indiana last Tuesday announced the death of his brother Frank Carter at Mountayn Indiana on Tuesday morning. The message said he was shot and killed with no further details and it is believed to have been accidental.
Stout and Son installed an Oak Gar land stove in the L O O F hall for 31 dollars 25 cents. The sale was the result of a price bid from two local hardware stores each unaware of the other. W D Stout won the coin flip to decide the deal while Alspaugh contends the coin was folded.
In Athens a mob attacked an elderly man during a white capping incident. He was dragged from bed in night clothes, tied to a wagon shed, whipped until blood flowed. Twelve assailants wore pillow cases to mask identities, and their names remain uncertain.
The school wagon driven by Howard Collett bringing country children to school overturned at a road crossing by Hill cemetery due to a washed hill road. Blanche Keller suffered slight injuries while lunch baskets were damaged. the wagon needed repairs. The notice urges greater care by drivers handling such young passengers.
Messrs Deaton and Stillwell of Troy Ohio are planting 500 peach trees plus cherries on John Skeets farm east of Claypool. The orchard will be closely pruned and supervised to prove peach cultivation possible in Clay township. They ship new Alberta peach trees noted for top growth.

Annual Halloween event set for tomorrow Saturday evening October 31 with heavy street crowds expected. Many youths plan private excursions and authorities will deploy an extra police force for public safety.
J J Babcock of the Silver Lake Lutheran Pastorate departed Tuesday for La Grange as a delegate to the Northern Indiana Synod of the Lutheran church. The Synod convened at LaGrange on Wednesday October 28 and will continue over Sunday. Babcock expects to return home at week’s end.
Last Saturday evening at Squire Barrett’s home, Everett Maggart and Lillian Bouse, both of this place, united in marriage. Chester Olinger and a Miss Moore from near Disko wed last week. further details unavailable.
Rev S W Wells returned from a visit with Rev O B Wells and family in Rochester and with Mrs J C Craig in Ora Indiana. He fell ill, blaming Ora’s soft drinking water, but recovered after returning home. He reported his congregation well and enjoying his trip despite the illness.
Contracts will be let for the construction of an auditorium at Winona with a seating capacity of twenty thousand. The facility aims to prevent crowding and provides comfort during Creatore's two week engagement next season.

Wesley Hay of wear Sidney died suddenly from heart failure on Monday evening while returning home from North Manchester. He fell from his wagon. a passerby saw the body and life was extinct. He was 65 and survived by a widow, three sisters, and five brothers. Funeral held at Mrs. Sala's home in North Manchester on Wednesday, October 21, conducted by Rev. Albert Wright. Broad Cast Upon the Waters records a subscription list supporting Ira Burk's mill reconstruction with many donors named and amounts noted.
The New York Dramatic News published a full page picture of Mrs Grace Van Studdiford last week. It cheered her great success in the new comic opera The Red Feather and noted her birthplace. Her friends praise her achievements.
Mrs Bonowitz of Van Wert Ohio cousin to Mrs E B Flavien returned from a tour through Egypt. She brought many relics from the old country including Jordan river water dipped at the baptism site and a strand of beadle presented to Miss Mildred Flavien.
Charles O. Dickey returns Monday from a several days trip to Chicago where he purchased a stock of goods for the Dickey and Sons store in town. Watch for their arrival.
Wells introduced on his visit a high grade Victor talking machine model from the exhibition style. Friends listened to many selections and praised the machine for its full volume and tone. The writer met Miss Randall, a pleasant accomplished lady who is expected to marry Homer Wells soon.
Colbert's announces a Friday sale running from October 23 to November 25 with a 25 percent cut on all lines of goods across the store.
An ad promotes Scott's Emulsion as the right food for soft bones in children, claiming benefits for bow legs and loose joints with daily small doses. It advertises a free sample and lists Scott & Bowne at 409-415 Pearl Street New York and $1.00 at all druggists. Also notes Sam P. Alrey near Manchester lost his right hand to a corn shredder Wednesday.
A Huntington newspaper clipping reports that Barl Burns, former Business University student, eloped with Miss Georgia Compton of Columbia City. They reportedly met in Warsaw and Winona Park before proceeding to Hobart, Chicago, and then likely wedding at Burns home. Burns, once local, is praised by friends.
