Members of Victory reading club and their husbands, about thirty people, met Monday evening at the C. L. Leonard home. The house was nicely decorated and the program was amusing and interesting. A 42 course luncheon was served in the dining room with cats bats candles and pumpkins in evidence. The committee is congratulated on the event.
Rev. A. Z. Fryberger conducts a series of meetings at Rose Hill Lutheran church southeast of town.
A town election is set for next Tuesday urging voters to vote for the man not the party. The notice stresses remembering the day and participating in the civic process.
Members of the S. T. Club enjoyed a marshmallow toast last Friday evening along the railroad north of town.
Arthur Grimes who had an operation at the John Cass hospital for an acute attack of appendicitis last Thursday morning is progressing as well as can be expected and it is hoped he will soon fully recover.
Willam Brown and family moved to North Manchester on Tuesday. Brown has been employed there for several weeks.

George Dick of the north east of tere was taken to McDonald hospital in Warsaw by A. E. Arnold for treatment. He had an operation about a year ago and his current ailment resembles that prior condition with abdominal pains.

Origin unknown, fire discovered by neighbors. Mr. Rider woke after others arrived. Loss estimated in the several hundred dollars with no insurance.

On a Wednesday evening last week members of the Wells threshing ring and their families gathered at Frank Alexander’s home near town. About forty people enjoyed ice cream, cake, cigars, and candy as they shared a very pleasant time.
Postmaster Yotter has added a money order window and a parcel post section to the post office. A new public writing desk is installed and all furniture has been painting and varnished with grained finishes.
Mr and Mrs C E Douglass and R Ht Falk and R F Barnes of Cleveland Ohio spent several days last week visiting at the S B Burdge home. The men accompanied Mr Burdge to Yellow Creek for fishing. Mrs Douglass is a niece of Mrs Burdge.
E Braude, owner of a packing house, bought a new delivery truck and put it into service yesterday. He ships butter eggs and poultry to eastern markets and will use the truck to bring more poultry to his Wabash produce house for quicker shipment. Mr Shnutt has been employed there.
George Allen of Packerton known as Tommy the Tinker suffered a right leg broken in two places when a gasoline tank exploded during soldering. He was thrown against a building but is progressing as well as could be expected.
Rev Speicher will conduct morning preaching services at the U B church next Sunday replacing the evening schedule. The change moves the sermon to the forenoon hours at the church on the community schedule.
The Hoosier-Dixie Highway Association across Indiana counties plans a major auto parade on November 3 with two routes from Cincinnati and Elkhart to Marion. About a thousand cars expected if weather cooperates. Prizes awarded to counties with most cars and most road boosters plus pretty girls, with Grant county barred from competition.
Sixty three trained cavalry horses of Culver black horse troop perish in a Sunday night blaze that consumed the stables. Firefighter efforts fail to save the animals. Insurance covers 20000 for the horses and 8000 for barns. total loss beyond estimate due to irreplaceable training.
Former Silver Lake girl Portia Flora wed a week ago in Indiana. Mr and Mrs Russell Haman and family visit Bucyrus relatives on Spring Street before wintering in Petersburg Florida. The Haman relatives meet the couple as news of the wedding is sprung as a surprise.

Miss Hazel Brown attended the Golden Wedding of her grandparents Mr and Mrs John Brown in Claypool on Wednesday. About twenty family members were present and the gathering enjoyed an exceedingly good time.
A new Franklin building, three miles west of town in Seward township, started this summer and hosts about a hundred pupils. Roy Hanes and Miss Edna Jontz, both locals, teach with Hanes serving as principal.
