Weather permitting the High School boys host the Silver Lake Grays Friday October 27 at 2 15 PM. It is expected to be a hot contest from start to finish with many local businesses closing for the game. Spectators are urged to attend and enjoy time away from home and work.
W L Rantz writes from Orton South Dakota Oct 16 1911 to Brush & Hinson about sending RevVonpD, local farmland terms around Eagle Butte and Cheyenne loam, crops including potatoes beans and watermelons, births noted, livestock, a neighbor’s trade for calves, and land prices per acre with water costs cited. He mentions his office near Eagle Butte and plans to prove up.
Postmaster Henry A. Ferree and William Perry visited Daniel Schroll at the Marion soldiers home to check on the critically ill comrade who is stabilizing. Schroll is brother of the late Mrs. Baer of near Disko. about twenty one hundred veterans reside there with new inmates arriving daily.
Mrs. F. M. Jaques suffered a badly sprained ankle from a misstep on a board at home last Sunday. She could not use the ankle for several days but is now much improved.
T. C. McClure shipped four cars of extra fine cattle to the Buffalo market last Saturday. The two droves through town were the finest cattle seen. Mr. McClure and Harry Kline accompanied the shipment.
H. J. Bartoo becomes new publisher after taking possession of the North Manchester printing plant on Monday and publishing this week’s issue. Former publisher Mr. Clark returns to Ihlingvis with in-state publishing background.
The Indiana State School for the Deaf opened north of the state fair grounds in Indianapolis. Most equipment has been moved, but finishing work remains, not expected to hinder school progress.
Local notice highlights Halloween planned for Tuesday October 31 in Silver Lake. The town will parade in costumes, with a band masquerade, house parties, pumpkin torches, roasting nuts, and ghost stories by firelight as residents celebrate the festival and enjoy the merriment.
Arthur Barber and his family stayed in town for a few days early in the week visiting friends and relatives west of town. Barber once ran the livery and feed stable here before moving to Wakarusa and is now continuing toward Oklahoma and the southwest.
Miss Lula Gambie, who has spent several years in missionary work across Western states, visited with her parents near town this summer. She plans to go on to Great Falls, Montana, and likely remain there for several years as she continues her missionary duties.
The Board of State Charities issues its annual pamphlet to Indiana ministers urging Prison Sunday on October 29, 1911. It describes Prison Sunday’s origin in New York in 1884 and offers guidance to designate an alternate Sunday if needed. The pamphlet, printed at Jeffersonville’s Indiana Reformatory, outlines Indiana’s work uplift for penal and correctional inmates.
The Rev McCoy preached an excellent sermon to a good sized audience at the U B church last Sunday evening. He will preach here again on Sunday evening, November 5.
Earl J. Black of Middleport Ohio and Ruth M. Friend of this place were married by Rev. A D Buck at the Methodist parsonage at high noon Tuesday. They traveled to Claypool by car and then to Ohio to begin their future home.
Eph Ruth, longtime editor of the Claypool Journal, has bought the outfit and issued the first four page home printed issue last Thursday. The newspaper includes many advertisements and Ruth brings substantial experience. Citizens of Claypool’s sister town are encouraged to support the revival.
Mrs C B Rantz reports Mr Rantz has improved to some extent after two weeks in Chicago hospital yet remains in critical condition. The specialist approved the change and the couple traveled to Gays Mills Wisconsin to stay with daughter Mrs Charles Lunsford where Dr Lunsford will oversee care.
William Dillman visited a specialist last Saturday about an eye injury from a flying board end. The eye condition is improving and sight remains unaffected.
Off Duty at Central Office Miss Clara Helmuth, longtime operator for Mutual Telephone Company, was compelled to give up her position last Friday due to trouble with her health. Her physician believes rest for several weeks will allow a return to work at the central office.
Mrs. Mary Meek plans to leave next Tuesday for Albuquerque New Mexico to stay through the winter with her daughter Mrs. Winona Leonard and family.
No new developments in the Price Blickenstaff shooting affray at North Manchester two weeks ago. Blickenstaff has resumed work in a local barbershop but has not fully recovered his voice. Price remains in the Wabash jail. The trial was scheduled to begin Thursday at 9 o'clock in the Wabash circuit court, but confirmation was not available at press time.
As winter nears the article warns residents to guard against fires while stoves are used for heat. It stresses that carelessness starts many fires and urges vigilance, noting many people feel immune but will regret it after a blaze. It lists precautionary actions and emphasizes avoiding risk.

Kissinger and Joan Ayres.
Mrs Milton Ball will depart next Tuesday for Lordsburg California to spend the winter with her sons John and Percy Bail and their families.
