A letter from Josiah Funk to relatives describes a safe but tiring journey to Wasco California their first trip to the Golien state. Wasco, a rapidly growing village, offers ample work with wages from 22 to 2.50 for common laborers and 2.50 to 3.00 for mechanics per eight hour day. The dry climate contrasts with Indiana's damp air and the outlook is favorable.
Young Peoples meeting at the United Brethren Church Sunday evening will focus on Missionary Endurance with II Timothy 3 10 17. E M Snake leads the session featuring special songs readings and recitations. All are invited.
A kitchen shower was given Wednesday evening at the home of Miss Mira Leonard in honor of Miss Jessie Helser. More than twenty guests attended and the evening was pleasant. Contests were held with prizes awarded. A two course supper was served and guests departed late.
William Gray Loehr the prohibitionist nominee for state representative visited Warsaw last Saturday and delivered an evening speech outlining campaign issues from the prohibitionist perspective.

A report from L. W. Myers says Mrs. Myers, who went to St. Louis four weeks ago for an eye operation, has been released from the hospital and is recovering well. The couple expect to be home by November 1.

U S statistics reveal Indiana with 46 826 registrations in the first half of 1912, ranking high among states. New York leads with 92 407, California 78 603, Ohio 56 000, Pennsylvania 52 257, Illinois 7 104, New Jersey 42 723, Massachusetts 42 000, and Michigan 34 585. Maine tops for per cent of registrations at 67.5, while New York falls 11.7 percent. District of Columbia leads population-adjusted density with one car per 30 persons. Sixteen states have less than one car per ten people.
Mrs I W Lee and her children left after a two week stay with relatives and friends to visit Elkhart before continuing to their home in Fulton Michigan.

Grover Huffman sustained a severe scalp wound when a dead limb about 25 feet up the Ezra Ring place tree dislodged during cutting. Noah Shireman assisted. Huffman received six stitches and is recovering after medical care.
Levi Rhodes, unloading coal from a car at the Big Four station on Monday, had his right little finger severely mashed when a large coal chunk fell. The finger was bursted open in two places.

A H Shock and his wife visited Huntington Friday night to attend a cousin's wedding held that evening with relatives present.
Four infantile paralysis cases have appeared in the area with no fatalities so far. The first case June involved John Beber, followed by Ted Dillman, Shutt, and John Summe. Authorities note uncertain causes and suggest promptly killing and burying any diseased fowls to prevent spread.
Mrs Esther Wilson departs for Fulton Michigan to reside there for the winter with her granddaughter Mrs I W Lee and family who moved from Charleston Illinois to Fulton recently.

The Post Office will issue a new Panama Pacific stamp set in denominations of one two five and ten cents. Each stamp measures three quarters by one and one sixteenths inches and features U S Postage San Francisco 1915 with laurel and palm borders and denomination numerals. The one cent shows Balboa, the two cent Gatun locks, the five cent Golden Gate, and the ten cent Discovery of San Francisco.
There will be preaching at the M E church next Sunday forenoon after Sunday School by Rev El W Park. In the evening Rev A Z Frybar ger will preach at the Lutheran church. This gives churchgoers a chance to hear two sermons.
Oliver Montgomery of Kansas City spoke Monday evening on socialism. Although not widely publicized, the talk held the audience for nearly an hour. Montgomery, a Kansas City Star correspondent on vacation, travels to advocate the socialist party during his four month break.
Frank Geiger of Milford loads several cars of onions this week. He is brother to Dick Geiger who lives just south of town and raised a large onion crop on a farm seven miles southwest of here.
