The Great St Bernard Pass and the Faithful Dogs
An 18th century tale recounts St Bernard dogs famed for aid to travelers on the Great St Bernard Pass. It traces their aristocratic lineage, monk-made training, and the pass as a historic highway used by Napoleonic and Hannibal era armies. A modern sleighing journey near Martigny illustrates enduring wonder at the monastery and its canine guardians.
