Mrs. Jontz of the northeast outskirts died Sunday evening after a two week illness that followed the birth of a daughter Ella Jane. She was 31, survived by husband Russell Jontz, son Corlis, infant daughter, and her father Samuel Bashore. Funeral Tuesday with additional details continued on the next page.
Mrs Charlot Pagan returned to Detroit Michigan Tuesday morning after a couple of weeks with her mother Mrs Hul dah Keesey and relatives. Mrs Keesey will stay in Michigan briefly then go to New York and Washington to visit other daughters and will remain until early spring.
Billy Hatfield five son of Mr and Mrs Claire Hatfield of Detroit Michigan had tonsils and adenoids removed in a Warsaw hospital last Thursday. He is a great grandson of Mrs Alice Hill who lives in the east part of town.
A sizable crowd gathered at the Church of the Brethren two miles east of town on Saturday night and Sunday to hear the Student Volunteers from North Manchester College deliver a community program.
A large crowd attended a miscellaneous program at the high school last evening. Seniors and sophomores performed a farce and comedy with songs and music. Parents and patrons praised the talent displayed by the students.
Dedicatory services for the new Church of the Brethren in South Whitley are set for next Sunday December 2 at 2 00 p m. Dr Otho Winger president of Manchester College will deliver the dedicatory address.
Now improving, Mrs H G Groninger who resides southeast of town and has been confined to her home for weeks with sickness is reported to be greatly improved from several days ago.
West of this place a relative reports the operation on Russell Barber last Saturday in a Warsaw hospital for appendicitis. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Walter Barber of Akron and was getting along very nicely at latest report.
Local schools closed last Wednesday evening for a two day vacation allowing instructors to visit relatives.
David Urmey died last Tuesday night at his Elkhart home after a long illness from Brights disease. He moved to Elkhart two weeks ago with his wife, surviving along with a son John and daughters Mrs. Jack Schlotter of Elkhart and Mrs. Fred Sack of South Bend. He leaves two brothers, Jacob Armey of North Manchester and Isaac Armey of Mexico. The funeral was held Friday in Elkhart with burial at Pittenger Cemetery near Nappanee.

Mrs L L Harkness of Hudson Michigan has been confined with smallpox at home with a high fever. the family is quarantined and a visiting student is also housed there.

Rev I W Lowman aged about 73 died suddenly in Indianapolis where he was visiting his daughter Miss Goldie Lowman He was a former newspaperman and Christian church minister He is survived by his widow one daughter two sons several brothers and sisters The funeral was held in Auburn with burial near that city
Caring for sister Mrs. Mattie Horne arrived from Detroit to assist Mrs. H. G. Groninger who has been quite sick at her home southeast of town for the past two weeks.
Donald Hill began duties as night watch in our city late last week. He patrols streets many times each night and will sound an alarm if anything out of the ordinary occurs.
Samuel Lowman and family have relocated from the Paulus farm to the Mrs Belinda Hamman place at the town’s northern edge.
Mr and Mrs F M Jaques celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary at their West Main Heights home on Tuesday November 27. He returned from the war in July 1865 and wed Miss Phoebe McClure in November that year. The couple has spent most of their life near Silver Lake and enjoy good health with friends hoping for many more anniversaries.
An International Live Store show will take place in Chicago next week drawing many local attendees. Organizers promise a larger exhibition than in prior years.
Isaac Caldwell entertained members of his Silver Lake school class at his north of town home last Friday evening with games contests and refreshments.

Mr. and Mrs. John S. Leffel marked fifty years of marriage with a Sunday dinner at their home southeast of town. About forty guests attended as a large turkey feast and a 22 by 14 by 4 inch angel food cake were shared, with gifts presented and well wishes for more anniversaries. Their seven children included Harry, Samuel, and Mrs. W. E. Billings, plus Edward in Oregon, James in Minnesota, and Charles in Iowa.
Mrs. Jacob Haney traveled to Butler Monday to attend the funeral of her brother Rev. I W Lowman held Tuesday afternoon. She was accompanied by her daughter Mrs. Chloe Glaser.
Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Kern traveled to Indianapolis on Wednesday to spend Thanksgiving with their daughter Mrs. Vera Kerr and her husband. They carried a large dressed turkey for the holiday meal and were joined by Maynard Young on the trip.
Dr and Mrs C B Lunsford will leave Gays Mills Wisconsin for Goshen where Dr Lunsford will oversee Dr Becknells practice while he and family winter in California Mrs Lunsford is to join in Goshen this week stay with her son Dr R E Snoberger until the Wisconsin property is settled and the family settles in Heilkhart County by the holidays
Ira Porter traveled from Michigan to Kalamazoo and spent Sunday at the J. D. Stone residence. Mrs Porter and their children returned home with him after a week visiting her parents and their family.
Mrs Worden Smith who underwent a serious operation in Warsaw hospital two weeks ago was brought home to this place last Saturday and, per latest report, was progressing nicely.
