Snow and rain halted paving on our main street but large equipment including a larva heater and tarva tanks are en route. A square of the street will open to the public when possible as crews rush cement work on aprons, sidewalks, and curbing damaged by freezing weather.
Short Mother's Day services were held at the U B Church here last Sunday following Sunday School.
Three county commissioners inspected street work and ordered the telephone company to move two poles interfering with paving. One pole blocks the street in front of a furniture store and another sits in the alley opposite the Creamery.
A meeting Tuesday evening elected officers for the base ball team. Manager Joe Moakown, captain Roscoe Ferrerda, Secretary and Treasurer Delbert Kerlin. Season to start one week from Sunday with opening game. Fans have raised funds and a neat amount subscribed. Foreign teams show interest in scheduling games.
Sidney plans to pave its main street at an estimated cost of 19 164 31 dollars. The 966 foot project runs north from the Nickle Plate railroad with a nine foot unpaved center strip forming a boulevard. Bids will be received next Monday May 21.
The town board of South Whitley negotiates paving Front Calhoun and Columbia streets to improve infrastructure.
Memorial service to be held at the Methodist church on Sunday evening May 27 with Rev. Young delivering the address. No Decoration Day services are planned. graves of Civil War and World War departed veterans will be decorated.
Mrs. Jane Mote aged over 80, long-time resident east of Sidney, died Sunday after several weeks illness. She had lived on the same place for more than 70 years and is survived by three children. Funeral services were held Tuesday.
Joseph Kerlin, Big Four section foreman, set a Northern Indiana mushroom record by collecting eight hundred fifty mushrooms from a three mile radius near town. His daughters-in-law Mrs. K. W. Gresso and Mrs. R. B. Hanes, with their husbands, joined for a family feast after the harvest.
Word from Indianapolis notes O LeRoy Leonard is getting along nicely and expected to be up soon. His daughter Mrs Myron Murphy of Mishawaka has visited him this week as he recovers from two operations including one last Saturday.
Washington meeting with Savings Directors from twelve Federal Reserve Districts reveals a permanent role for Treasury Savings Certificates in financing. A total of one billion dollars of public debt will be issued over four years. half of the 1923 quota of 250 million has sold. Certificates come in 25 100 and 1000 dollar denominations and Maturities are five years with cashing on demand. Purchases available at local post offices or directly from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.
Information reached the office that starting next week the theater will run three nights weekly on Tuesday Thursday and Saturday with the same quality program as before. Mr McKown books new, top films and charges align with city rates for similar shows.
The lake area gears up for summer with cottages renovated and new homes adding to the pleasant vista. Thousands visited last year and the trend toward short resort stays is expected to grow. O A Pearson announces an opening dance at Myrtle-Glenn Park next Sunday. Courtland Park opens Sunday May 27 with Ann's Sixteen Piece Orchestra from Elkhart.

Oleo Neff, a Warsaw boy, and Buryl Bronson, formerly of New Castle, were sentenced to 1 to 14 years in the reform school after pleading guilty to stealing an automobile owned by Wallace Clay of Warsaw. The judge gave them advice to reform after serving their sentence.

Rev. Parr of Wabash will speak at the South Pleasant church in the afternoon of Decoration Day. The Simonton drum corps will perform old time music. Decoration Day honors a local Civil War soldier buried in the cemetery of the town.
General Hocking Fuel Company filed in Warsaw on Wednesday a suit on a note for $757.71 seeking a judgment of $1,000 from the Silver Lake Elevator Company.
The Lake township Sunday School convention will be held at the Center U B Church four miles north next Sunday afternoon. Fort Wayne's Hon. David H. Hogg will speak. his address is expected to draw many miles for attendees. He is praised for experience in church and Sunday School work and for capable handling of subjects.
George Phillips a 17 year old from Warsaw was badly injured last Thursday after a bicycle crossing clash with a car. He suffered a deep hand gash a back sprain and body bruises as the Kalamazoo woman driver said neither party saw the other.
William Isenbarger, a long-time resident north-east of Laketon, died last Thursday at the Hospital for the Insane in Logansport after a brief stay. The body was brought to Laketon for the funeral held Sunday afternoon. He was over 77 and survived by his wife two sons and several relatives.
Visited Illinois manard Young spent the weekend with friends at Elgin and Chicago. He enjoyed a most pleasant time during the outing with local acquaintances and urban sightseeing.
Rev O B Wella of Columbia City has been in town this week handling business matters. He plans to buy stock for his farm near town and, with his wife, will spend much of the summer at the estate.
More information arrives about the death of Wallace Watson who died after a vehicle upset off the road. The driver fell onto Watson and injured his thumb before Watson was hospitalized. A doctor cites brain concussion and subsequent heart failure from blood clots as the cause of death.
Fruit growers remain unsure how last week’s cold affected crops. Strawberries in bloom suffered some damage but are few, while fruit buds may be harmed and drop later. Many growers say thinning fruit could improve quality as trees appear overfull.
