Tragic Barn Shooting Kills 11-Year-Old Robert Smith
A deadly accident at the John Fitton home left 11 year old Robert Smith dead after Clyde Budd aged 13 discharged a revolver in the barn. Don ald Thacker aged 11 was present as authorities opened an inquest led by Coroner Kelly from Warsaw. The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon after school when Budd fired the weapon, striking Smith in the left breast near the heart. Smith lived only minutes after the shot and his funeral was planned for Friday at the U B Church with Rev Park to conduct the service. The coroner rendered a verdict in the case while neighbors gathered and assisted at the scene. Smith was a top student in the fifth grade and the sole son of Earl and his wife, who had been separated for some time.
