Leesburg faces an unspecified epidemic with many children and adults affected. Public schools have remained closed to curb spread while authorities take precautions. Quarantine talk arises but is regarded as unlikely by officials.
Gresso and Bechtelheimer plan a new general store in Silver Lake occupying the W A Swihart room in the Paulus building. They lease for two years and aim to open early in April after preparations and stock purchase. Gresso is an experienced merchant. Bechtelheimer brings strong character and partnership potential.
Roy Rowland, long time in town visiting relatives, told RECORD he has disposed of his interest in the Grand Haven Michigan Business College to his partner Mr Maher. He plans to remain with his parents through the summer before likely opening a new school elsewhere.
A Philadelphia grocer advertised coffee by a checkerboard doubling sequence claiming enormous totals: 18.446 quadrillion beans, 7.96 quintillion pounds, 331 quintillion car loads, and a freight train nearly four trillion miles long. The sign extended to earth circumference and sun distance, concluding with a vast cost and years of national consumption.
Mrs. C. A. Pearson found a letter mislaid among restaurant goods sent from the post office at Christmas. Inside lay a Battenberg gift from Mrs. W. B. Roush of Markle. Pearson promptly acknowledged the delayed note and explained the circumstances.
Teddie Hildenbrand son of Mr and Mrs Joe Hildenbrand born August 10 1904 died March 11 1904 aged 7 months and 1 day. Funeral services were held at Gospel Hill Monday conducted by writer with interment in a nearby cemetery Rev E E Martindale officiating.
Dickey and Sons are packing store goods this week as they prepare to relocate operations to Warsaw.
The J. H Wilson stock of goods was packed up last week and shipped to Fairmount.
The Silver Lake circuit M E Church held its last quarterly conference with strong attendance. Reports show flourishing Sunday Schools at Claypool Mt Pleasant and Silver Lake, active Epworth Leagues, and a Junior League of 45 members led by Mrs. A. E. Sarah. Finances nearly complete for salaries and church debt status improved.
Indiana law restricts hauling on thawing or wet roads. Prohibits vehicles with tires under five inches from exceeding specified weight limits. fines range from 5 to 50 dollars for violations.
Rev. A. J. Douglas of Columbia City is in critical condition after a stroke of paralysis. His family and church members await further medical updates as doctors treat him in the hospital.
The Robbins return after wintering in the South and settle near their previous summer home. Robins and bluebirds lead the spring migration, arriving first with males in March and females two weeks later. Young birds accompany parents to winter grounds in the south where they are hunted. nests are in the north where they seem happiest.
The Silver Leaf lodge D of R entertained the Claypool Dor R with nineteen visitors from the sister lodge last Thursday evening. The event featured social fraternal activities and a splendid course of refreshments.
The Deestrict Skule exercises last Friday evening drew amusement from spectators and participants alike. The event showcased methods once used forty to fifty years ago in country schools, sparking nostalgia and lighthearted fun.
Ed Wiley started his Wednesday trip heading west. He traveled to Chicago and will stay several days there before continuing to Iowa.
A West Town neighborhood group gathered Monday of last week and cut about sixteen cords of wood for Mrs Hiram Perry to ease her winter need.
Oscar Shultz and fellow Claypool youth Finton ran away last Saturday. They drove Shultz’s pony to North Manchester and sold the animal. The last sighting showed them boarding a Vandalia train westbound Sunday evening. The buggy was taken from Whittenger who retrieved it Sunday. no sale attempt on the buggy occurred.
On Wednesday evening at eight, Mr. Percy R. Perry and Miss Grace Clymer married at the bride’s parents’ home west of town. Rev. W. H. Rittenhouse officiated, with about twenty five guests present and refreshments served after the ceremony. The couple are well known and highly regarded in the community.
Rev Titus Hill of the M E church married Miss Maude Strain at Cook Chapel near Warsaw after Sunday sacramental service. The bride, daughter of Mrs William East, has taught in Harrison township schools. The couple will live in Burket Indiana.
Ira Wallace of Elkhart and Amelia Perry of Silver Lake were married Saturday evening February 25 at the Evangelical Minister parsonage in Elkhart. Wallace works as a brakeman on the Lake Shore line and Perry is daughter of the late Hiram Perry of nearby.
The Lutheran church services ended last Saturday night after several weeks of revival meetings. On Sunday evening Rev. Kain started a new series at Rose Hill church expected to continue for several weeks. A further short series by Rev. Kain is planned to begin around April 23.
A. W. Butler and his wife visited here over Sunday with Mrs Butler's parents. They left Monday for Fort Wayne where they expect to make their future home. Mr. Butler is largely interested in a sand brick plant in that city which is nearly ready to begin operation.
Parties visited Wednesday seeking a site for a flouring mill. They showed strong interest and stated they would return. The community should consider making a proposition on this line with due consideration.
Grandpa Wiltrout has worn a new cane with a pleased expression for several days. The cane was a gift from Dr. Hay who also shows appreciation for the donor's kindness.
Hugh Hill sold his interest in the City Barber shop to John Leonard. Hill plans to leave for Elkhart next Monday and has not decided his future plans, stating he will take some time to look around.
