A Saturday gale toppled roofs and shattered structures across the area. Damage included a shed roof, a broken window, and unroofed barns. In Van Wert two and in Lima several people were killed as the storm, likened to a Kansas twister, swept through Ohio.
Relatives report Rantz Snoberger has landed safely in France and will tour many sights. His address is published in this issue and his family awaits word from him as he travels.
Here from Michigan Mr and Mrs David Spencer visited Monday to see their daughters Mrs Charles and Mont Hamman and families, sharing a brief family gathering with local relatives.
Clarence Hamman has worked in Hammond the past week. His brothers Charles and Mont are arranging to join him there.
List of first grade pupils who earned perfect spelling grades last month in Miss Marion Swihart's room. Sunday school Mazda class members were to be entertained at the P. F. Helser home if the M. E. church meeting ends. If the church closes the class would postpone one week. Last Friday embroidery club members were entertained at Mrs. S. B. Burdge home.
Victoria residents hosted gatherings at multiple homes. The Victoria reading club met Monday night at Mrs H W Kline, the Mothers club met Friday afternoon at Mrs Myron Murphy's home, and the 8 club met Friday evening at Miss Madge Whisler's home. A missionary meeting occurred at the home of Rev and Mrs Singer on Thursday afternoon.
All day meeting here Friday features EB C Martindale appointed by the state delivering an address on the swine and feed proposition at ten o'clock, followed by a seed corn talk at one o'clock on the same day and place. Farmers urged to attend.
At Camp Shelby last week the Kosciusko county boys with Battery D of the 137th Field Artillery opened the season with a 6 to 5 game. A Silver Lake player Deverlle Underhill sprained a ligament sliding into second base. no other injuries reported.

Four year old son of Mr and Mrs Howard Conn died suddenly at their North Manchester home last Saturday evening after mumps. Authorities suspect apoplexy caused the death. Funeral was held Tuesday afternoon. Mrs Conn is a daughter of Rev and Mrs O B Wells of Syracuse and well known locally.
Chester Craig writes from San Antonio Texas dated March 6 1918 to his father John C Craig describing orders to report to the Chief of Ordnance in Washington DC with seventeen men in the group. He mentions travel plans by Southern Pacific via New Orleans and notes others sent to Camp Jackson California and some unassigned. He expresses pride in the assignment and plans to write back with more details.
The registration board in the county will soon be in session and all residents who wish to vote in the upcoming election must register. The process will continue for several months and voters should not forget this obligation.

The L. M. Burge household goods were moved to Tipton Monday and the family will soon reside in their new home. Mrs Burge and the children traveled Thursday and were joined by Mrs. S. S. Burdge who will stay a week to ten days to help arrange the household effects.
Miss Reba Sheely of Warsaw visits with her brother Sheyd Sheely and family southeast of town. Savin Sheely travels to Joplin Montana and the wife and children plan to leave next week for the stubtoe state to make their future home.

Monroe Wedrick disposed of his livery barn and the adjoining property to Jacob Maxw ell the first of the week and gave immediate possession.
Russel and the Misses Ollie and Valera Self have resumed duties in Chicago after spending a week away for their mother’s death and funeral.
Mr. Wood slipped and fell on the sidewalk around the first of February striking his right hip. The injury has caused him much trouble and left him with limited use of the limb.
Miss Treva Grundish of Claypool married Claude Jamison of Rochester on Tuesday afternoon in Warsaw. The couple plans to reside in Rochester where Jamison operates a telephone system.
Mrs Ira Coy, who underwent an operation at her home in the north part of town several weeks ago, has recovered enough to be up and about and attend to household duties.
The two months old daughter of Mr and Mrs Ora Armey was found dead at home east of here near Sidney early Monday. The child had been in good health and was seemingly all right during the night. Death is supposed to have been due to strangulation.
Milo Scott, son of Mr. and Mrs. A J Scott of Silver Lake, reports from New York he departed by ship for Panama to work for the government after passing the examination. He describes a smooth voyage toward the canal, mentions stations from Watlings Island to Navassa, and hopes to test his seafaring stamina. He asks his parents not to worry as he travels aboard a Colon mail stop.
Employed in Warsaw, Miss Doris Meinert went to Warsaw Monday where she has accepted a position in a restaurant.
Mrs Monroe Paulus living north of town has endured blood poison on her foot for about a week or ten days. At latest report she was progressing well and hopes for a full recovery soon.
Miss Lula Gamble who has worked in Detroit for some time spent the past week with her parents Mr and Mrs Thomas Gamble south of town. She was joined on the trip by Mrs Ruth Williams and her son.
The Gemmer store interior has been renovated with new wall paint wallpaper shelving and arrangements set to accommodate a large stock of groceries.
