The lottery to select men for the draft ran over seventeen hours with over 10,000,000 men assigned positions. First numbers drawn started at 258, 80 on down, with notifications by letter for examination. Exemption rules allow seven days to file claims and ten days for affidavits after the physical exam.
Foster Miller and family of Huntington visited Saturday afternoon and remained until Sunday evening. They sat with J. J. Miller near town to attend the funeral of Mrs. George Raker, the aunt of Mr. Miller.
On pages two and three in this issue the Record publishes a complete list of the numbers drawn at Washington in the selective draft lottery last Friday.
A Wednesday afternoon storm caused extensive damage in the area. Crops including corn oats and wheat were blown down. The Mra Meek barn four miles south of town lost its roof and structures on the Ed Wendel place were damaged. Lightning killed two cattle on the Wendell property and the Lawrence house suffered minor damages.

Wilbur Amiss son of Mr and Mrs Charles Amiss residing southeast of town married Estella Killian in Indianapolis on July 14 1917 at 730 pm The couple will reside at 30 North Garfield Avenue Wilbur has been in Indianapolis about a year and holds a good position
Now residents of our city Mr and Mrs Walter Harris occupy rooms in the L W Myers property becoming permanent residents of the area.
S B Burdge with wife and daughter L M Burdge and daughter and B H Gressel with wife and daughter spent Sunday at Yellow Banks reporting two most pleasant hours.
Mrs Alma Lapp of Racine Wisconsin visited here in the latter part of last week with her brother Charles Pearson and his wife.
Last Friday evening Harry Shepherd drove a Ford that overturned near Center church north of town. The car was damaged but no one was seriously hurt, only a number of cuts and bruises. The incident serves as a warning for cautious driving on rough roads and sharp corners.
Reverend and Mrs Singer departed Monday morning for Pennsylvania to spend several weeks with relatives. It is the Reverend's former home and he has not visited there in several years.

Lyde Kissinger of Pueblo Colorado arrived here late last week to visit brother Van Kissinger and family and sister Minnie Whittle. He is accompanied by his son Keith and plans extended stay as he re acquaints with Claypool changes after eighteen years away.

Mr Orlando Sellers writes the International Sunday school Lesson for the RECORD. A Michigan native, he became city engineer and superintendent of public works in Lansing after training there. He later led church work, taught at Moody Bible Institute, and directed evening classes and Sunday School courses serving 600 plus students annually.
Mr and Mrs KR M Frye were summoned from here on Tuesday to Pueblo Colorado after receiving a message that Mr Fryes father was gravely ill and not expected to live.
Mrs. Lillie Hawley visited Roll last Friday and plans to make the town her future home. Her husband works for the N. M. Frantz construction company.
