George Snell of North Manchester suffered a severe arm injury when his left arm was torn off between the shoulder and elbow after getting caught in a corn shredder on Kuyler Brown farm east of town. He was taken to McDonald hospital in Warsaw where doctors performed an amputation.
Notice to retail dealers to limit flour sales to 1 pound per week per capita, 5 pounds per town resident, and 12 pounds per county. Emphasizes use of substitutes with 60 percent gra ham or wheat flour. Issued by James R. Frazer, Federal Food Administrator for Kos Chiyko County.

Monday evening at the Dixon home an accidental gun discharge killed 16 year old Glen Dixon. A revolver believed unloaded was being examined by a Thompson youth when a loud report rang out. The bullet pierced Dixon’s back and he died almost instantly. The incident is described as an accident and a warning to avoid handling firearms.
Spring warmth brings roaming chickens and yard damage provoking neighbor complaints. Citizens urged to pen fowls to protect gardens and support the war effort and food production.
In Chicago for examination Dr Leckrone accompanied Ralph Whittenberger to a specialist to secure a spinal brace. Ralph has suffered for some time and the brace is the only effective treatment. Measurement was taken and the brace will be manufactured to order and sent at once.
John Jones aged 83 died at his home two miles south of Burked after years of poor health. He leaves his wife five sons three daughters and many relatives. Funeral set for Friday afternoon at Palestine church with burial nearby. He was an uncle to BE Jones.
On Saturday March 2 exhibits will be shown in each room of the high school building. Pupils from all departments display work from the past several months. The event lasts all day and patrons are invited to visit the building to view the projects.
A sizable crowd attended the Tuesday Wedrick sale. Horses were plentiful in the ring with cattle hogs hay and other items. all brought fair prices and Mr Wedrick expressed satisfaction with the results.
Mrs. James H. Anglin arrived last Sunday from St. Louis to visit her mother Mrs. L. W. Myers and other relatives in town.
Entertained members of the .T. club on Friday evening by Miss Gladysi Brigg. The event featured socializing and refreshments in a community setting.
New April start for voter registration with 29 days before election cutoff. County commissioners appoint the registration board on the third Monday in March. The top party from the last election certifies chief and deputy clerks. Pay capped at five dollars daily. Soldiers in the field may register by mail or in person with proper blanks.
Members of the Mothers club were entertained last Friday afternoon at the Mrs P F Helser home west of town. The event featured socializing and refreshments among members of the community circle.

Samuel Smith, who fractured several ribs in a cellar fall a month ago, has been getting along nicely and was able to be downtown last Saturday for the first time since the accident.
Last Friday afternoon members of the embroidery club were entertained at the Mrs H P Rager home.
The Young ladies of the P. D. club were entertained Wednesday evening by Miss Trilby Summe at a social gathering.
Arley Ring living at his west of town home with rheumatism is slowly improving after a month, and friends hope he will soon be able to visit town again.
Burk and Kissinger have been hauling poles this week and preparing to run electric current from Warsaw. Pole placement will begin soon and current is hoped to start within days providing twenty four hour service.
The state tax board fixes auto assessment rates for township assessors. Class one covers cars under 700 dollars with declining values over five years. Class two covers 700 to 1800 dollars with its own scale. Class three applies to higher priced vehicles. Real valuation allows a 25 percent equalization deduction for owners.
Orval Brown of the John Cass place southeast of town was dragged by a runaway manure spreader portending serious harm. He escaped with a bruised body, knocked loose teeth, and a leg injury below the knee but no bones broken. He was improving and in town by Tuesday.

A letter from William Wedrick at the Great Lakes Training Camp in Decatur Illinois dated February 25 1918 describes arrival February 19 after a long night of processing and bunking in hammocks. He notes 46 Hoosiers tired from travel, vaccination soreness, Sunday School and a patriotic sermon, rough but hopeful life, and plans to stay at least twenty one days while awaiting watches.
The text advocates raising pigs to capitalize on high pork prices. It suggests quick entry into pig farming, using pasture, skim milk or buttermilk, and limited corn to build a large frame. It notes corn is preserved and pork can be produced at low cost when fattening. High priced corn can be profitably fed with proper management.
Elmer Renberger, formerly of the Bolin farm area and now on a farm near Warsaw, will conduct a public sale tomorrow before moving back to his old Lafontaine neighborhood. He was in town for a few hours last Friday.
Hershel Day and family moved from Niles Michigan after a year to the H. A. Moyer property two miles west of town. Mrs Day is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Moyer.
Mrs Nora Keller and her son Leonard have moved out to the farm and occupy rooms with the Lloyd Sheely family. Mrs Elizabeth Snoberger will continue to reside here in town.
Dr. Harry E. Barnard finalizes guidance on meatless day rules for all groups including ladies clubs and dinners. He says weiner worst sandwiches remain prohibited with meat and that slaughter of hens and pullets is forbidden, with penalties up to five thousand dollars and two years imprisonment for violations.
The town has multiple candidates for the court seat with three pursuing that office, one for auditor, and one for surveyor. The primary election is set for May 7, leaving about two months of campaigning to canvass the county.
Rev A Z Fryberger of Warsaw preached at Rose Hill Lutheran church last Sunday and is feeling better after a cold. Services are set for Sunday March 3 at 10 30 am with a special sermon titled To God is Supremes and Holds the Distinies of Men and Nations in His Hands Why Does He not Put a Stop to the present World War.
Odd Fellows lodge will perform the 1st and 2nd degree at their regular meeting Friday tomorrow night. Several members will advance to new ranks under the lodge's present arrangements.
