A C Chandler, formerly of Silver Lake, died at his Elkhart home Monday morning after a long illness. He was a longtime member of K P No 164 and relatives from this place attended the funeral in Elkhart today with burial in the local cemetery.
Evard Maggart and his family moved from the A. L. Sunday property west of town to occupy part of the L. W. Myers property. Residents welcomed them to the community on the Tuesday relocation.
Earl King of North Manchester died from a rifle shot received in a quarrel at Logansport last Thursday evening. The shooter was William Nading of Logansport, a former Royal Center policeman. Funeral was held in North Manchester on Tuesday afternoon.
Sylvester Johnston of Warsaw visited Saturday staying with Frank Sellers then at Ransel Harris home with Mr and Mrs Johnston. He appears the same veteran as years ago and shows no sign of aging in a minute.
An explosion shocked a railway site Wednesday morning last week. Engineer Miller fireman Meeks and brakemen Oldfather survived, while investigators the next day attributed the incident to luck and exonerated the crew from blame.
A literary program will be held for high school pupils on February 23 afternoon. Pat should arrange to attend.
Oldfather, scalded in the face and injured when an engine exploded at the station last Wednesday, managed to hobble downtown. He expects a lengthy recovery before returning to work.
A large cow on the John Tucker farm southeast of town fell from a straw stack last week and sustained injuries that worsened, leading to its humane killing on Monday.
Elva Jones reports Mr. Jones is progressing well after a recent operation at a Ft Wayne hospital mentioned in last week RECORD. He is getting along nicely.
Edward Reed son of Mr and Mrs Robert M Reed arrives from Wabash to take charge of the E Braude creamery. Mr Reed plans to move into the Charles Teeter property in the south part of town in a few weeks as the Reed family settles in welcomed by locals.
Charles Brown arrived home yesterday from Cambridge Nebraska after a two month stay with his brothers. He reports good local work and steady prices. At Cambridge he attended a sale of thoroughbred Hereford cattle where one bull sold for 4500 dollars and ninety head sold at an average around 800 dollars.
Everett Rager aged about 13 of Goshen, eldest son of Mr and Mrs M M Rager, was severely injured Tuesday evening after slipping while sliding down a stair railing at the school. He fell about fifteen feet, was unconscious briefly, and suffered spine and internal injuries though no bones were broken. He was treated at a hospital and later sent home.
Edward Aughinbaugh and Misa Zelphia Priser wed Tuesday of last week at the Warsaw court house in a ceremony conducted by Rev. Warstler of Auburn. The groom is from North Manchester, the bride from near Sidney, both well regarded. They plan to establish a home on a farm north of Liberty Mills.
Frank Anstott and his family, long-time residents of Disko, returned from Dowagiac Michigan this week. They lived in Disko several years ago and are moving back to their former home this Tuesday evening.
Clarence Bechtold, living 44 miles southwest, reports he traded his farm for a place between Bippus and Huntington. After five years away, the Bechtolds plan a public sale on Friday March 2, with details in another ad in this issue.
The third number of our lyceum course is set for Tuesday evening February 28 featuring Mason's Jubilee Singers in a lively old fashioned jubilee show. They charm the ear and satisfy the soul with a snappy program.
Fragmentary marriage notice mentions Hazel Ditton and Ernest C Penrod with garbled details about the wedding date and names of others.
Russel Jontz residing west of town has accepted a lucrative position with the Standard Oil Company at the main office in South Bend. Brown began work Monday and his friends wish him success.
The Record Office announces a program to save money on magazine subscriptions or renewals. Residents are invited to visit the office to subscribe or renew, with details available in person.
Arthur Lamar died in Longcliff hospital Logansport last Friday after about a month of illness. He was the brother of Mrs. Dorsey Clinker and a son of Francis Lamar who lived south of town before moving to Marion North Carolina last fall.
Arthur Irvin Lamar born June 5 1885 died February 16 1917 aged 31 8 11 is survived by his father two sisters Mrs Tillie Clinker and Millie Thomas and two brothers Ernest and George His mother died in August 1904 The remains were brought to Akron Saturday for a funeral at Silver Creek Bethe church Sunday with Rev Levi HM in charge Interment followed at the nearby cemetery.
Earl Zile and his family will move from the Jacob Buuse farm southwest of town to the Rufle farm northeast of North Manchester next week. The community frowns at their departure yet wishes them success and recommends them to neighbors in the new locality.
Mr and Mrs Renberger living southwest of town are the parents of a baby boy born last Friday February 16. The announcement notes the birth and family location.
Mrs Kate Drudge spent the past week in Manchester at her son Athur Drugge's home with family in residence awaiting a newborn.
County assessors will start Thursday March 1 to assess property and dogs. Everyone owning property on March 1 will be assessed for it, even if sold earlier. Dog owners must pay the proper dog tax in cash when assessed. The assessors will meet at the county assessor's office in Warsaw to set a uniform schedule for countywide assessments.
Charles E. Morgan aged 26 residing near Disko was adjudged insane last Friday and will be taken to the hospital at Logansport soon. Officials say the insanity may have resulted from a severe cold.
Warden Smith, formerly employed by a construction firm near San Antonio since December, resigned and arrived home last Saturday evening.
The Stevens farm northwest of here hosts the Haag and Murphy sale on Wednesday February 28. Read the ad in this issue and attend the auction.
J J Babcock of Warsaw writes from Long Beach California on February 15 1917 praising Southern California and orange groves after three months there. He plans to travel to El Paso New Orleans Mobile and Citronelle before returning home around May first.
Mr and Mrs H A Martindale attended the funeral of Mrs Robert Walker held today in Ruann She was 60 years old and had been ill only a short time with pneumonia. Mrs Walker was a sister to Mr Martindale.
Rural carriers in the area observed Washington's Birthday with a holiday. They will handle an unusually heavy mail load later, including about fifty 44 pound catalogs per route, plus extra general mail and catalogues to deliver.
A Braude building is being prepared for creamery machinery with most equipment on site. Installation will take about two weeks and butter production is expected soon, bringing higher cream prices to locals and creating multiple jobs in the town.
The domestic science class will hold a box supper on Friday evening February 23 at the school house. Activities include cake walk candy walk fish pond and music with a prize for the most popular young lady present. Cakes and candy are homemade by the domestic science girls.

Mont Loehr moves to the Ed Mills property vacated two months ago. Rev. Fryberger preached to a fair audience. Wilson Harris from Cambridge Nebraska visits after twenty five years away.
