The Disko M. E. Church, closed five months for repairs, will be opened and rededicated on Sunday February 24 1907. Rev B S Hellopeter of Broad way church Logansport will conduct. The project cost about 10 a substantial revival of services and a call to community moral life is issued by Pastor T M Hill.
William Hill, once frail and nearly unable to move since last May, has shown marked improvement and can now walk around the house with a cane. The progress follows several weeks of recovery and cautious steps forward.
A Wednesday fire consumed most of the Leesburg brick school building, leaving only the walls intact. The four room, two story brick structure built twenty one years ago suffered a total interior loss with about 1000 volumes in the library and most school books destroyed. The loss runs to $10,000 to $13,000, insured for $6,000, and the fire is blamed on a defective flue. The volunteer fire department and citizens fought to save adjoining buildings and arrangements will be made to hold classes in a church or hall.

Senate passed a bill by Senator Farner to punish wife desertion with one to three years in state prison or a fine from ten to one hundred dollars, or a jail or workhouse sentence of not more than one year if enacted into law.
In Indiana the legislature two years ago enacted a drasi anti cigarette law and may raise penalties this session. Proponents view pamphlets like The Truth About Cigarettes as dangerous to youths, calling for stricter controls to curb the coffin nail. The tobacco industry fights back, while observers urge stronger measures to end cigarette use among boys.
A House committee on post offices and post roads favors a measure allowing 10 cent stamps of any denomination to be used in place of the special delivery stamp if the words special delivery appear on the letter.

A well will be drilled, shade trees added, camping provisions provided, cottages built, and land leased for private cottages. Silver Lake becomes a planned park and summer resort.
Unofficial reports say the post office department is weighing a Sunday mail delivery trial on rural routes mid year to satisfy farmers and readers in thickly settled districts. Publishers back the move but carriers oppose it citing low pay and rising resignations.

The M E quarterly meeting met at the church in Silver Lake over Saturday and Sunday. The business session occurred Saturday afternoon at two o clock and preaching services were held at 10:30 Sunday morning by Rev E L Semens presiding elder who delivered an able discourse to an appreciative audience. Rev Lemans proceeded to Palestine for a quarterly conference on Monday.

Rev C J Miner formerly of the U B Church here wed Miss Mae Blue at the bride’s parents home near Burket last Saturday. Relatives from Mentone attended and cake samples at the wedding dinner were noted by Orvil Sarber. The RECORD offers congratulations to the couple.

J A Armey writes from Hansborn North Dakota January 27 1907 describing heavy snow and extreme cold causing trains to be snowbound and freight halted. He notes visitors over New Year and waits for a decision from Lloyd about a job while considering two other hires. He mentions sending groceries and plans to visit town to pay for supplies.
