An elderly local woman died at her residence west of town last Friday afternoon. The demise occurred December 7, 1923, and the family will conduct funeral arrangements in the coming days with neighbors noting the peaceful passing at home.
Mrs Summe of the farm west of town died Friday afternoon about 2 30 after suffering a paralysis Monday forenoon and remaining unconscious thereafter. Rev Perry of Elkhart conducted Sunday services. she and her husband had long resided on the west farm and were well known to neighbors and friends in the area.
The North Manchester Milling Company will start building a new flouring mill foundation as soon as river water falls enough to dig trenches. The replacement replaces the mill destroyed by fire several weeks ago and will be owned and operated by the North Manchester Milling Company.
County Sunday School workers will meet in the Warsaw library tomorrow to discuss hosting the next County Sunday School Convention. The last convention was in Eton Green in early November and several places may bid. A large attendance is anticipated from Sunday School workers.
High waters in Hel livar last week drowned the Collamer water plant cutting off electricity to Sidney. The shutdown halted the electric lift system and rendered the ventilating motors inoperable, leaving Sidney without power for ventilation until repair.
Bible instruction recently started at Goshen High School will extend into the lower grades at the start of next semester around January first. City ministers say Bible education should be taught in public schools across the country.
A poultry show will be held in Columbia City from January 8 to 13 next year. It marks the first show in two years after a 1923 smallpox quarantine delayed the event.
Mr and Mrs O B Deaton traveled to Indianapolis for a state meeting. The program featured several good talks and a statistical report indicating strong farm bureau activity statewide. Kosciusko county stood out with high local interest and a leading position among county groups.

Bids opened for the James H. Smart public school annex in Fort Wayne. Noah Frantz, residing east of town, awarded the contract for 148,900 dollars, about 10,000 dollars below the next bid. highest bids reached 185,000 dollars. Frantz’s crew builds the Pierceton school now and will relocate to Fort Wayne in spring to be near the project.

A large crowd attended Tuesday evening at the high school to hear the Wishon Quartet. Mrs. Bernice Salisbury a former Silver Lake girl and quartet member thrilled hometown listeners. The program was presented under the senior class auspices and the class appreciated the patronage.
A large turnout from the area attended the funeral of Grandma Summe held last Sunday afternoon at Bethel church, located northwest of town.
Mrs Elizabeth Snure widow of the late George Snure has returned to Rosehill to reside in her home after living with her daughter Mrs Claude Ramsey and husband at Wabash since her husband's death.
Mr and Mrs Noah Frantz of Pierceton visited over the weekend at their east of town home. Mr Frantz holds the contract for erecting the Pierceton school building and the work is progressing very nicely and the building will be ready to occupy before many weeks.
Report notes several locals have attended a series of meetings in Packerton during the past week and observers say large crowds attend each service.

Willy Gause, carnival figure claiming Roann as home, returned from a Canada hunting trip with nine companions from South Bend and Elkhart. The group purchased 17 000 acres near Calender Ontario, 2980 miles north of Toronto, paying 50 cents an acre. The men organize the Indiana hunting club.

Charles Egolf age 46 a Baldwin Tool Works employee in North Manchester was found dead in his home Tuesday morning. He reportedly ingested a quantity of acid and died quickly. His son found the body. No poison container was found. Neighbors say he seemed mentally unbalanced.
Eva Platt a nineteen year old from Warsaw tried to end her life by swallowing carbolic acid Thursday after being arrested by Marshal Lewellen of Akron. She fled from her aunt’s home to Beaver Dam lake and slept in a boat. She later walked toward Akron, stopped at a farm house where authorities intervened, and she remained in serious condition though recovery was hoped.
On Thursday last week L. H. Zobrosky, mentioned in our prior issue, had an operation in a Rochester Minnesota hospital for stomach ulcers and, at latest report, was progressing very well.
Leg injury befalls Chester Olinger’s twelve year old son Wednesday evening at Bussard School when he stepped on a cement block and a companion landed on his leg. Physician called, boy brought home, and reported resting well.
A man was found attempting to enter the Grosso Store through a side door in the early hours Tuesday morning. Police reported the incident and are reviewing security footage for identification and motive.
Night watch heard a break in near two o'clock at the Gresso store and shone a light on a prowler at the side door. The intruder fled into an alley as Mr. Hill pursued the suspect through town, and the officers fired four shots in the chase. No one was captured.
The Peabody post office in Whitley County Indian Territory will cease operations on Saturday December 15. Patrons will be served from a route based in Columbia City, directing all mail handling to the new arrangement.
The Lee Drill family relocated from the O. B. Wells farm west of town last week to occupy the Walburn property in the north east part of town.
Ed. Jackson asks Attorney General U S Lesh for ruling on the state law raising auto license fees. Rates vary from 66 cents to 300 percent depending on car size. He suggests motorists pay gasoline tax and keep license fee as before, delaying 1924 licenses awaiting decision.
