Liver Lake boys depart for military camps to join Uncle Sam. Edward Hay heads to Orylethorpe Georgia in the medical detachment. Chester Bashore returns home then moves to Camp Custer Michigan. Several others listed prepare to entrain from Warsaw for Camp Taylor Kentucky and other posts.
Mr. and Mrs. John Blue of White Pigeon Michigan announce the birth of a son born August 15. The child has been named Robert Lukens Blue. Mrs Blue was formerly Miss Alda Lukens of this place.
George Summe his wife and Miss Iva McKrill visited the Great Lakes Training Station last Sunday and spent the day with C. R. Jontz.
Mrs Estella Stephens of Ohio has been visiting Mrs Rantz’s home this past week. She formerly was Miss Estella Herendeen and lived in this place years ago.
Mr and Mrs Fred Walters journeyed east of town last Friday to Fort McClellan for a brief visit with their sons Ford and Harry in training there. Accompanied by Al Hildenbrand and daughter Clee the Walters report the boys are doing fine.
Mrs. Joseph Bloom about 89 was fatally struck by a freight train on the Nickel Plate road in Sidney as she attempted to cross the track. The accident occurred Friday evening after night caused confusion from an automobile headlight. Fireman reported sensing a collision, but no witnesses at the station. The train stopped. Bloom died about twenty minutes later from injuries to a leg and arm.
Indiana Governor James P. Goodrich was seriously hurt when his car hit a street car in Indianapolis on Wednesday night. He suffered brain concussion skull fracture collar bone hip fracture and multiple cuts and bruises and is only partly conscious at St Vincent's hospital.
Ed Schock of Fort Wayne closed a longtime tailor shop and cleaning and pressing business last Sunday. He has taken a position with the Fort Wayne post office, stepping away from his nonessential enterprise after many years of operation.
Kosciusko County's first war casualty is Hal Menzie of near Pierceton. He served in coast artillery and sailed for France in June, dying in action after reaching the front. His father, William Menzie, received the telegram in Wa shington on Friday afternoon confirming the loss.
Mrs. Winona Leonard receives a letter from her son Leo who is described as ever there but the content is omitted for space and will be printed next week.
Trustee Paulus announces the school hack drivers for the term listing Route 1 Ed Moore Route 2 Manhlon Rhoades Route g Jacob C Rhoads Route Ear Zile Route 5 George Newhouse Route 6 Harmon Drudge Route 7 Arthur Tracy Route 8 Alvin Perry. Children on routes 1 2 3 and 8 will be conveyed to No 2 4 miles east of here and those on the other routes will be brought to town school.
About sixty members of the Howard-Larue families met at the park last Sunday for a reunion. A letter from John LaRue of Beach Tree Missouri was read. Officers elected include Sherman Province as president, Lloyd Lowman as vice president, Glenn Ferree as secretary, and Cameron Howard as treasurer.
Schools set to start Monday September 2 marking a unified eight month term. Trustees praise State Board guidance and community impact as renovations create a 36 by 53 assembly room with stage and seating for 120 permanent plus 150 to 175 extra and room for 250 to 300 for events.
After months of arranging and securing instructors, Prof J D L Clise is again named principal and township superintendent. He will oversee the high school and grade work in both districts while implementing the six and six plan. A major building improvement supports the junior and senior high school structure and is praised by students and patrons.

Mrs. F. D. Hayman traveled to Warsaw on Tuesday and delivered 86 pairs of socks sweaters and 1 helmet from the Lake Township Red Cross Chapter to the county headquarters.

Mildred Martin fourteen year old daughter of Marion Martin of Akron drowned Saturday afternoon while wading in Rock Lake west of town. She slipped into deeper water while trying to reach a fellow swimmer and could not swim to safety. William Craft and Albert Lynch reached the scene first. the body was recovered about an hour later despite a physician’s efforts.
The District Shorthorn breeders association met at Hunter town and elected new officers. C. L. Leonard was named a member of the executive committee.

A large gathering at the Hanson home on Sycamore Street celebrated Elizabeth Hanson’s 79th birthday with a family reunion. Attendees included Mrs Ed Shenefield and family from Andrews, Mrs Loren Pratt and family, Mrs John Richardson from Huntington, Miss Dotte Shenefield of Fort Wayne, Mrs Fred Randolph and husband, and Nina Shenefield with Frank and Richard Shenefield from Andrews, plus Mrs G Ast Brush and her husband.
Indiana site for a U S army training camp expects 1250 soldiers plus a 200 member staff by September 14. The facility will provide five quarters and housing for 2 000 to 3 000 more trainees via a planned training school opening by the 15th. Routes between Warsaw and Vaipara may connect to the mechanical training center.
Thirty five young men over twenty one years registered at the county clerk's office in Wars for military service. They will be classified as soon as they are examined and returned.
Mr. and Mrs. Morris Lipply visited Columbiana Ohio on Saturday to see relatives and friends. It is noted as Mr. Lipply’s home town.
The Newton County residents will hold a meeting at Myrtle-Glenn Park on Saturday September 7. Attendance usually ranges from one to two hundred people.
Mrs. Smith Higgins, formerly ill at her son’s Anderson home for nearly three months, has greatly improved and returned to her Akron residence. She traveled by auto last week with Mr. Higgins and visited their Akron home.
Here From Kansas Mrs. John Clifton of Vermillion Kansas was in town a couple of days last week. She was formerly Miss Rose Bailey and resided in this place many years ago.
Mrs Catharine Boulton of Goshen and Mrs A Metzgernds with Mrai Wk Ebert of this place visit relatives in Ohio at Mt Vernon and Jeromeville.
The Lowman family met at Myrtle Glenn park last Wednesday for their annual reunion with 54 attendees. Morning visits gave way to a basket dinner at noon followed by a business session and leisure time at the lake with bathing and boat rides. Notable out of town attendees included Mrs A B Cosper and family from Butler Indiana and others from Montpelier Gio Hickville Ohio Alma Mich Edgerton Ob.
