Bumble Bee Sting Fatal on Farm Near Town

A farm worker named Enoch Rhodes was fatally stung by a bumble bee while working on his farm southeast of town on Tuesday. The incident prompted local authorities to urge caution around bee activity in rural areas.

Death by Bumble Bee Sting Shocks Small Town

Word spread Tuesday morning that Feoch Rhodes died suddenly from a bumble bee sting while working at a farm near town. He was 66, left a wife, one son Charles, and two daughters Minnie and Edith. Funeral services were held Thursday at Rose Hill Church with Rev. D. F. Kain officiating.

New General Store to Open in K of P Room

Robert Pilkington of Van Buren will occupy the K of P room about September 1 with a new stock of general merchandise. The front will receive plate glass, walls repapered, and a cement walk installed, making the shop the town’s finest business room.

Thieving boys stole a basket of dinner from C. C. Carter's carriage at the Saints' camp ground last Sunday. The basket included a neatly prepared meal with table linen and silverware valued at five dollars. They were seen and chased into a corn field but escaped with the basket.

One of the Laws Aimed at Vandalism Enacted

A new law prohibits painting printing pasting or other markings on or affixing notices to buildings fences or trees without owner consent. Conviction carries a fine from five to three hundred fifty dollars. Exemptions include posted public sale notices by sheriffs administrators executors or guardians or notices required by law.

His extensive experience helped manage a large party in a big city, and he hopes for another trip next year if conditions permit. Traveling Salesman Visits Family in Franklin Township

Orris White of Osborn Paper Co Marion and his family visited their uncle H. L. Meredith trustee of Franklin township. They arrived from Elkhart last Friday and stayed a few days enjoying the country air. On Tuesday White said they could not stay longer as he likes young chicken. They stayed with the Pearsons and planned to take Marion’s 11 oclock train.

Death of Former Silver Lake Resident Francis Anderson

Francis Anderson 72, former Silver Lake resident, died at his Hammond home Saturday August 16 after a six month illness marked by weakness due to old age. Funeral Monday at 3 PM at Sycamore church near Mentone. He leaves a wife and an adopted daughter and was previously known in this community. Mr and Mrs Robertson and Mrs Grosnickle attended. Anderson and his wife lived here for years and were well known to locals. He visited friends here last year.

Dog Bite Incident Near Pearson Restaurant

Joseph Kerlin and his son Delbert were near the Pearson restaurant when their dog Dock, belonging to Pearson, bit Delbert as he tried to stroke the dog. The teeth penetrated clothing about three fourths of an inch, causing a minor skin wound. Delbert was shaken but unhurt, and the injury was treated.
