Mrs James Nelson, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Laughman, returned to the locality Monday after spending over a year in Michigan. The Laughmans reside just south of the Big Four station.

Harve Geiger, formerly of Mil, plans to enroll at the Winona School of Pharmacy in Indianapolis at the start of the upcoming term. He previously attended local school last winter and had been nearing completion before leaving.

Back to the States After Seven Years in Alaska

Hugh Snyder returned home in Beloit Wisconsin from Alaska after seven years. Ray Henderson, who had been in Alaska, announced he had returned to the States and was in Seattle and would visit Beloit soon. The Henderson family is doing well and Ray may visit friends here.

Old Settlers Picnic Set at Myrtle Glenn Park

Residents will gather for a picnic next Thursday at Myrtle Glenn Park under manager H L Oldfather of the Peoples Mutual Telephone Co. Officials plan a permanent Old Settlers organization and invite locals to exhibit relics and curios. A large crowd is anticipated with speeches, music, and lakefront festivities.

Mrs John Fitton attended the funeral at Columbia City on Sunday for Marjorie Goodrich an 18 months old daughter of Mr and Mrs Goodrich of that place. Mrs Goodrich formerly Miss Flossie Jontz daughter of Mr and Mrs Jacob Jontz was also named in the service.

McKrill Improves After Second Appendicitis Surgery

Raymond McKrill is doing nicely after a second operation for appendicitis performed Tuesday by Drs Leekrone and McDonald. The appendix was not removed in either operation due to excessive pus. Such cases are rare, making this one notable.

Mrs. J. E. Gill Dies After Lingering Illness

Mrs J E Gill died at her home northwest of town last Saturday afternoon after a lingering illness from a complication of diseases. She was past 67. She is survived by her husband four sons and three daughters. Funeral held at Center A B Church Tuesday at noon with interment in Mount Pleasant cemetery conducted by McCoy of Claypool.

Man Kills Large Rattle Snake Near Home

Monday afternoon Isaac Spangle killed a large rattle snake that measured more than two feet in length in a city area, authorities said.

Deserted Husband Brandenberg Disposes Of Property

Alva Brandenburg deserted his wife and child a couple of weeks ago and went to North Dakota. The wife, destitute, applied to Trustee Frantz for relief and was taken to the county infirmary last week. Brandenburg left all chattels behind and has not been located, with reports he went west toward the Pacific Slope.

Preacher Rev. J. W. Cain to Speak at Silver Lake Church

The Rev. J. W. Cain, general secretary of the Preacher's Aid Society of the North Indiana Conference, will preach at the M. E. Church in Silver Lake next Sunday August 18 at 10 30 am and at South Pleasant in the evening. He is described as a capable preacher of the old Gospel and urged to hear him.

Vangilder’s Crop Ravaged by Hail Storm

James Vangilder, living north of Barket, said a hail storm weeks ago ruined his corn and rye crops. Thirty acres yield may drop to about 100 bushels while an acre and a half of cucumbers and late potatoes were badly damaged. Several farmers in the area faced similar losses totaling hundreds of dollars.
