Mrs James Nelson, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Laughman, returned to the locality Monday after spending over a year in Michigan. The Laughmans reside just south of the Big Four station.
Harve Geiger, formerly of Mil, plans to enroll at the Winona School of Pharmacy in Indianapolis at the start of the upcoming term. He previously attended local school last winter and had been nearing completion before leaving.
Hugh Snyder returned home in Beloit Wisconsin from Alaska after seven years. Ray Henderson, who had been in Alaska, announced he had returned to the States and was in Seattle and would visit Beloit soon. The Henderson family is doing well and Ray may visit friends here.
A visiting party traveled to Mentone on Monday aboard Mr Oldfather's Paige Detroit motor car. The trip included a look at the town's telephone system as part of the excursion.
Residents will gather for a picnic next Thursday at Myrtle Glenn Park under manager H L Oldfather of the Peoples Mutual Telephone Co. Officials plan a permanent Old Settlers organization and invite locals to exhibit relics and curios. A large crowd is anticipated with speeches, music, and lakefront festivities.
Mrs John Fitton attended the funeral at Columbia City on Sunday for Marjorie Goodrich an 18 months old daughter of Mr and Mrs Goodrich of that place. Mrs Goodrich formerly Miss Flossie Jontz daughter of Mr and Mrs Jacob Jontz was also named in the service.
Raymond McKrill is doing nicely after a second operation for appendicitis performed Tuesday by Drs Leekrone and McDonald. The appendix was not removed in either operation due to excessive pus. Such cases are rare, making this one notable.
Mrs. Edwin Davis returns home after a week away visiting her sister Mrs I J Havens in Adrian Michigan and her parents Mr and Mrs C S Choate in Erie Michigan. She attended a Choate family reunion at Monroe Pier on Lake Erie with over seventy five relatives from several states.
Those who dined at the T. J. Alspaugh residence last Sunday included Mrs. Mary Packer of Thornville Ohio Mrs. Della Johnson and Miss Samantha Moore of Middlepoint Ohio Jacob Zell and family of Auburn Mrs. H G Frame of Fort Wayne Jacob Teeter wife and daughter of Nappanee and Mr and Mrs Andrew Hamman and William Miller of this place The gathering was friendly and social many had not met in years
Mrs J E Gill died at her home northwest of town last Saturday afternoon after a lingering illness from a complication of diseases. She was past 67. She is survived by her husband four sons and three daughters. Funeral held at Center A B Church Tuesday at noon with interment in Mount Pleasant cemetery conducted by McCoy of Claypool.
Monday afternoon Isaac Spangle killed a large rattle snake that measured more than two feet in length in a city area, authorities said.
J. H. Girken fell ill early this week after eating canned beans with poison suspected. He opened a can, ate some, then consumed the rest and became seriously sick from the poison.

Mrs Elizabeth Jones widow of Charles W Jones died Tuesday evening at her daughter Mrs Theodore Parkers home near Yellow Creek lake. Funeral was held Thursday afternoon at Mt Pleasant church six miles north with burial nearby conducted by Rev E E B Wright of Larwill.
Ab Herendeen of Chicago arrived Sunday to spend time here and fish the local lakes. He brings a full fishing outfit kept in first class condition and enjoys visiting from the city each summer, staying at his sister Mrs. Mary Rantz home during the vacation.
Snowden Flora and his two Topeka daughters stayed with S. B. Burdge. Flora works at the Topeka weather bureau station and helps in that area. He is Mrs. Burdge’s nephew, a son of Mrs. John Elora of North Manchester.
Alva Brandenburg deserted his wife and child a couple of weeks ago and went to North Dakota. The wife, destitute, applied to Trustee Frantz for relief and was taken to the county infirmary last week. Brandenburg left all chattels behind and has not been located, with reports he went west toward the Pacific Slope.
The Rev. J. W. Cain, general secretary of the Preacher's Aid Society of the North Indiana Conference, will preach at the M. E. Church in Silver Lake next Sunday August 18 at 10 30 am and at South Pleasant in the evening. He is described as a capable preacher of the old Gospel and urged to hear him.

James Vangilder, living north of Barket, said a hail storm weeks ago ruined his corn and rye crops.
