Two Men Shot In Santa Fe
Police say two Santa Fe men died Sunday in an apparent murder death by own action incident. Al Calles, 43, died after being shot several times early Sunday. Dewey Loveless, 149, died about noon from a self inflicted gun wound in the head. Detective Fernado Rivera tied the shooting to an argument near the YFw Hall in Santa Fe.

Meany Blasts Workers as Pawns in Economic Policy

Sunshine survivor recounts mine disaster response
Byron Schultz, a 21 year old shaft elevator operator, told the House Labor subcommittee that miners received no fire drills or escape plan instructions at the Sunshine mine in Kellogg Idaho where 91 workers were killed. He described seeing dead or unconscious colleagues and escaping with a wet shirt used as a improvised aid. The union said 91 miners had almost no escape routes beyond elevators and lacked drills or escape plans. Frank McKee of the United Steelworkers criticized Sunshine Mining Co for neglecting basic protections.

In Philadelphia a team of seven doctors will autopsy an Egyptian mummy at the University of Pennsylvania to determine if ancient disease patterns included cancer hepatitis syphilis or pollution. The unwrapped postmortem will mimic a modern human autopsy to guide guesses about antiquity’s health. The mummy is one of three X-rayed in the museum and not a royal figure.

Longshoremen Reach Pay Agreement on West Coast
The West Coast longshore union and dock employers announced an agreement on Pay Board ordered scales, ending a dock strike threat.
