Return Hope Fades Yet Stays in New Mexico Family

The Herrera family of Albuquerque continues to hope for the return of their son, M. Sgt. Frederick Herrera, MIA in Vietnam since March 1968. Officials have offered no new contact, despite a 1971 POW photo match. several other New Mexico servicemen remain listed as MIA or POW.

Student Gives Aid For Two $250 Scholarships At UALR

LITTLE ROCK APP A student at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock has donated 50 dollars to fund two 250 dollar scholarships for the Fall term. Waiter Harry H Haas age 25, a sophomore journalism major, said he saved the money from weekly 75 dollar wages and a 220 dollar monthly GI Bill.

Mid-Decade Census Planned For 1975

Census Bureau plans a mid-decade sample survey in 1975 surveying about one million households or 1.5 percent of the population to update social and economic statistics since 1970. Estimated total cost is 45 million, with 6 million requested in the 1974 budget. about 15 000 respondents per family.

Merchants Plan Spring Promotions and Cinco de Mayo

Downtown merchants discussed spring promotions at Friday meeting. They formed a four person committee to plan the Cinco de Mayo celebration. An Easter promotion is planned with surprises for area children, a spokesman said.

Bill Lewis Installed Master Councilor in Bakersfield

Bill Lewis now of Bakersfield California has been installed master councilor in the Order of DeMolay in Bakersfield. He is the son of former area resident Pauline Hinds and grandson of Cappie Doolittle, with brother Leon Rusty Lewis of Cliff. He leads the Medical Explorers Association and is past president of Medical Explorers, with about 100 members in Kern County, and engages in Ski Chess Bowling clubs and church activities.

Church Circle Plans Tastee Luncheon in Silver City

United Methodist Women of First Church Silver City Circle IV met at Mae Latif home with seven members and three guests Mrs Irma Herdman Mildred Adams and Mrs Fred Finsterwald. Mrs Caroline Miller led the business, final plans were made for the Tastee luncheon at church from 11 40 a m to 1 p m Saturday.

Runaway bulldozer damages Colorado home

A driverless bulldozer in Arvada plowed into a house Sunday, shifting it a quarter inch off its foundation. Neighbor John Rangel reported the impact as Terry Wright of Denver saw the unmanned machine before police arrived.

Robert E. Allen 43, of Hurley, formerly with El Paso Sheriff and Police and Santa Fe Railroad, died after a brief illness at Hillcrest Hospital.
