Rare Andalusian Mare In Silver Parade July 13

Glen O. Smith, rector at the VA Hospital at Fort Bayard, will ride Rebuscada, a rare Andalusian mare, in the Frontier Days Parade in South California Saturday morning. The article notes Andalusians were among the first horses brought to the continent and reflects on Spanish explorers in the Southwest in the late 15th century.

Three Die in Head-On Crash South of Reserve

Three men were killed in a head-on collision on Slate Road 7B eighteen miles southeast of Reserve. Horton Irvin, Robert M. Herhon, and Albert E. Bayne died in the crash. Irvin survived with unspecified injuries and was transported to Hillcrest General Hospital in Silver City.

Viet Nam Forces Break Through Viet Cong Trap Near Pleiku

In a major battle about 200 miles northeast of Saigon, government troops faced heavy Viet Cong assault. A Vietnamese infantry unit was surrounded but linked with two airborne battalions and radio contact was reestablished. No casualties reported. 34 air sorties were flown against the Viet Cong.

Fireworks Banned in Southwest National Forests

Regional Forester Fred H. Kennedy has proclaimed a ban on all fireworks on National Forest lands in New Mexico Arizona and parts of Texas and Oklahoma for the rest of 1965. He cites the dry season and Independence Day as peak danger and warns careless handling could trigger devastating fires.

Pearl Webb former resident dies in Indiana

Mrs. Pearl Webb 83 mother of Chase H. Webb of Liver City died early Monday at her sister Mrs. H P Roots home in Milroy Indiana where she had lived three years. She was a native of Decatur County Indiana and daughter of William H Lines. She married Carl E B Webb of Rushville in 1905. Interment planned for East Cemetery Rushville Indiana.

Father of Local Resident Dies in Belen

Harvey A. Woodmansee 62, of Los Linas, a well known figure in this area, died Sunday afternoon in a Belen hospital. He is the father of Mrs. Robert Jensen of Silver City. Further details follow on Page 2.

Partly cloudy with afternoon showers forecast

Partly cloudy weather continues with a chance of showers this afternoon and evening. Highs reach 90 to 95 today and Thursday with lows around 57 to 63. An early hour report notes a 7 am high near 97 and low near 60 with 0.28 inches of precipitation. Airport data show a high near 98 and low around 61 with 0.02 inches recorded.
