Jersey City Kiss Leads to Littering Charge and Release

In Pittsburgh AP report Rich ard S Wright 23 of Orange City Iowa a teacher. While driving with his arm around his girlfriend she kissed him. A patrolman fined him for reckless driving. He ripped the ticket and threw it away. He was charged with littering then apologized and the littering charge was withdrawn. He was released on 50 dollar bond.

Supreme Court tosses Sheppard murder conviction

The Supreme Court ruled Dr. Samuel H. Sheppard did not receive a fair trial in the bludgeon slaying of Marilyn Sheppard. Justice Tom C. Clark said the due process clause of the 14th Amendment required reversal and ordered the case back to the Ohio district court for possible fresh charges or release if the state acts within a reasonable time.

Train derailment injures about fifty near Templeton Iowa

About 50 persons were injured when the east bound City of Los Angeles passenger train derailed two miles west of Templeton Iowa. None seriously, with 17 admitted at St. Anthony's hospital in Carroll and about 30 treated as outpatients. The five diesel units plunged into a 15 foot embankment into a cornfield. Uninjured passengers were taken by bus to Sacred Heart School in Templeton for breakfast.

Santa Fe Man In Jail After Making Threatening Calls

A Santa Fe man, Arthur R. Cardero, 44, is jailed on disorderly conduct charges for using the telephone to make threatening and abusive calls. He allegedly told Sen. Joseph M. Montoya that harm would come to him, saying it happened to President Kennedy. Aides in Montoya's Santa Fe office also received near daily calls since February. Bond was set at the time of reporting.

Forest Fire Burns 20 Acre NC North of Silver City

A forest fire burning about 20 acres was sighted just before dark Saturday, four helitac crew were flown in, and eighteen men fought the blaze Sunday morning aided by seven loads of slurry. It was likely lightning caused in rough terrain with brush and heavy timber. Five fires have occurred this year in the Gila National Forest.

Smalley-Wamnel Vote Unchanged In Hidalgo Recount

In Hidalgo County a recount confirmed the original result in a three county Hidalgo district for the May 1 Democratic primary. State Sen I M Smalley led R H Wam el by two votes. Wamel requested further recounts in Luna Sierra and Hidalgo counties. A Hidalgo recount found two ballots cast for Wane marked incorrectly.

Taxpayers Urged To Attend County Commission Meet

Grant County Taxpayers Resolution body urges residents to attend the June 10 county commissioners meeting to express views on the proposed property re appraisal plan. The Silver City District contemplates selling 250000 in school bonds July 1 1968 to boost interest savings, with a unanimous board vote backing the new schedule. Visitation committees were appointed to study city and county governmental operations.
