Eskimo Boy Sacrifices Self to Save Pilot Dies
A 14 year old Eskimo boy, David Kootook, is believed to have saved pilot Martin Hartwell after a plane crash 60 miles south of Great Bear Lake in the Northwest Territories. Hartwell, 45, was rescued in good condition with multiple injuries. the boy died on the 23rd day of the ordeal. A pregnant Eskimo woman and a 27 year old nurse also perished in the crash. Hartwell reportedly guided the boy, who built a shelter and kept a fire, as rescuers searched for 32 days.
