Tornadoes Slam Florida in devastating panhandle strike

Sunday storms shattered ten Florida Panhandle cities killing two people and injuring more than 200. Fort Walton Beach and Tyndall Air Force Base bore the worst blows with hundreds of homes wrecked, several unroofed, and power lines cut. authorities estimated multi million dollar damage and deployed National Guardsmen to guard against looting. In Bon Secour Alabama a boatyard was destroyed and an uninsured loss estimated at twenty six thousand dollars. A Fort Walton Beach home collapse killed Loreta Byrd and critically injured her husband Jerry Byrd, while three year old Joan Coker died at Eglin Hospital as her mother delivered another child during the crisis. The couple M Sgt H Coker and wife faced total home destruction.

Silver City Youth Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash

A fatal crash at the US 180 and NM 90 intersection near Central involved Loren Dale Smith of Silver City, who died at the scene. Four others, including Parefico Duran and three Calderons, were injured and treated at Hillcrest General Hospital. Smith's body to be shipped to Halstead, Kansas.

Viet Cong suffer heavy losses in Saigon area battles

Viet Cong forces suffered severe casualties in multiple attacks near Saigon, Nhut Tan, and Loc Ninh, with U.S. and South Vietnamese forces reporting around 4,200 enemy deaths over the past week.
