Cobre Board Reviews Hiring Policy in Dispute

The Cobre Board of Education clashed over teacher hiring at a 7 p.m. meeting led by Sam Grijalva and Mace Parra who questioned Superintendent Haskel Smith about teachers hired before board approval. About 150 men, representing a monthly payroll near $100,000, were laid off for an indefinite period, according to a spokesman for U.S. Smelt.

Minnie Brumback Former Resident Dies in Deming

Minnie L. Brumback 89 longtime Deming resident and former editor and publisher of the Deming Graphic died at her Deming home Friday morning. Funeral held Saturday at Mahoney Funeral Home Deming with interment in Evergreen Cemetery Newport Kentucky. Surviving are two Brumback daughters Mrs William B Clarris of Deming five grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Dreher Funeral for Susan Kay Dreher in Deming

The funeral service for Susan Kay Dreher of Deming, who died in a highway accident near T or C, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Interment follows at Mountain View Cemetery. She was an honor graduate of Western New Mexico University and the daughter of Mrs. Helen Evans of Deming, with relations in Silver City.
