Four Big Tree Awards Highlight Alabama-Coushatta Reservation
Texas’ only Indian Reservation of the Alabama Coushatta has earned four Championship Tree Awards from the Texas State Forestry Service. The trees span American Hornbeam, Hercules Club, Water Hickory, and Longleaf Pine, with potential for the National Champion Big Tree Award. The tribes’ timber program, aided by the Forestry Service, showcases the 4000 acre reserve’s historic landscape once visited by General Sam Houston and will be a tourist highlight in the 1968 season.
