Eastex Adopts Sawdust For Pulp And Paper Production
Eastex Incorporated begins using sawdust once burned as waste from East Texas and Western Louisiana mills as a raw material for pulp and paper. The Hart Stud Mill near Evadale and Kirby Lumber Co. mills export the sawdust. Eastex aims to buy from 27 mills, spending about 2 million dollars annually, creating new revenue for mills and reducing air pollution by avoiding open burning. The process will cook sawdust with existing hard wood, processing about 1 300 tons daily with newly installed equipment, strengthening the regional economy over time.
