Texans Seek Record Texas Highway Funding For Urban Freeways
Civic leaders gathered in Austin pressing the Texas Highway Commission for a record trunk-line funding package. They asked for 171 million dollars for Houston and Harris County plus an 89.4 million program for freeway development to handle 1980 traffic, while 14 other projects also sought funds. Governor Daniel plans to shift funds from farm-to-market roads to trunk-line work, with the Legislature to consider cuts and tax adjustments.
