The crimes included outboard motors, gasoline, rifles, saddles, power saws, and livestock. John Stevenson pleaded guilty to burglary and drew a two year penitentiary term. A separate late Saturday night assault and robbery case led to charges against Donald Ellis, Sammy Fountain, and David Hughes, with a Kirbyville suspect still sought.

Rev. Mike Gilchrist will lead a revival at Woodrow Baptist Church from May 25 to June 1 with daily services at 10 a.m. and 7 30 p.m. Ira Powell, South East Texas Baptist Association education director, will be guest song leader. Chance Loeb School District to Hold Tax Rate Election
Chance Loeb Independent School District will hold a tax rate election this Saturday May 24. Polls open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Principal James W Boykin says the vote asks to raise the rate from 125 to 150 per 100 of valuation, or keep it at 125. The move was requested by 67 qualified taxpayers due to rising operating costs. If approved the district would revert to the 150 rate previously in place when Chance and Loeb were separate districts. Property valuation stays the same. only the tax rate changes. Funds are needed for new equipment and district buses along with other expenses.

School Board Delays Vote on Negro Teacher Lloyd Ewing
The Silsbee school board tabled action on Lloyd Ewing’s job application for 1958 59 after Earl Wills condemned perceived pressure on the board. Loeb Woman Is Charged Fined In Auto Deaths
Mrs. Bertha Blaisdale paid a $100 fine and costs in county court on May 13 after pleading guilty to negligent homicide in the April 17 crash near Loeb that killed two women, Mrs. Thomas Metcalf and Mrs. Ethel Parker. The car sank about 30 feet. fishermen rescued Blaisdale. Joseph E. Griffin was fined $50 for driving while intoxicated on May 19. A report showed 40 jail arrests for the week, including 20 drunks and 16 gaming cases.

Services For Coleman Youth Held Monday
Funeral services for Robert Jean Coleman 17 Evadale youth killed when struck by an automobile four miles north of Victor at 2 30 a m May 18 were held at Brushy Creek Cemetery Rev Charles Blant officiated. Coleman native of Merryville La and lived in Evadale with parents Mr and Mrs Robert Coleman four brothers eight sisters and a grandmother survived. Constable Hop Williamson investigated and said the body was dragged 229 steps from impact after the Harris car backed to turn around Harris driver W J Harris and companion Robert Murphy reported the incident. Investigators continue to probe how the youth came to lie in the road.
